La Golondorina [sp?]

Post by J D Sauser »

Could anyone e-mail me or post Jerry Byrd's original version of La Golondorina [sp?].
There is also an other song Jerry Byrd would play, which has a confusingly similar beginning. I don't know the name of it but if some has that one too, I would also be interested.

Since I don't seem to find it on CD anywhere, I don't have any other access to it.

Thanks! ... J-D.

I don't know about the original, but I think there is a version of that tune on the CD "Son of No Peddlers Allowed" by Byrd, which is probably available at westernswing.net

JB's version of Tiare Tahiti has a very similar beginning to La Golondrina.

I think Ray Price uses the same melody for "She Wears My Ring". Sorry if that's irrelevant.

La Golondrina !!

Post by Eddie Cunningham »

Hi J.D. ! La Golondrina was on Jerry Byrds Decca vinyl L.P. "Hi-Fi Guitar" probably recorded in late 50s ?? I have that and can send you a cassette tape copy if that will be any help ?? I'll send you an E-mail. Eddie "C" ( the old non-pedal Rickenbacher geezer )

I had an MP3 of Jerry's arrangement but lost it
in a recent computer upgrade.
I would love to have been able to sent it to
you JD.
I did it for a lesson a few months ago for a student
of mine and based it on Jerry's original to the best of my ability. I have the tab if you want I can sent
it off to you.
All the best. Roy

A Jerry Byrd favorite of mine

Post by Billy Tonnesen »

One of my favorite Jerry Byrd recordings was called "Merories of Maria". Great playing and great back up orchestration. Anyone else remember it ?

Sorry, I mispelled "Memories" should have been "Memories of Maria"

Yes! Memories of Maria is on JBs' Satin Strings of Steel album (available on cassette from the Steel Forum catalog). Gorgeous steel playing! It's early 1960's, with very tasty orchestration.
Hawaiian Beach Party is another great JB record, in my opinion.

Thanks to all who posted here and also e-mailed me with some very nice and generous offers of friendly help.
Someone just sent me a super quality mp3 copy of the song.

Case solved... my phrasing of the song is completely different, I just realize... oh well...

Thanks! ... J-D.

I like the phrasing (timing) on Buddy's version that was titled "Singing Strings". 8)

Me too, Donny. I heard Buddy Emmons' version long before I heard Jerry's, and to be honest, I prefer Buddy's version. It's Killer! very smooth and soulful.
