Speedy West will be my guest on Tuesday nights show (Jan. 22, 2001). I'll be calling Speedy shortly after 7PM CT. If you have and questions or comments for Speedy, email them to me wkrp@wkrp.fm and I'll be sure to pass them on to him. We'll be playing some of his recordings and talking to him about his career.

You might ask him which tuning was his dominate preference.....E6th or A6th.

How did he come by his signature slide on his C#min neck with the chromatic strings on the bottom?

Was "Steel Strike" his first instrumental recorded?

Tell Speedy I said Thanks For The Memories !!
Those records and radio plays of him and Jimmy brought this teen age rebel out of the fog and back to reality. "How'd they do that ?? Think I'll find out for myself " and I did. It was magic then; it is magic now !! I was writing to Jody Carver last night and they were playing Speedy and Jimmy ! What a way to finish the day !!!

Regards, Paul

Paul G, I also want to thank Speedy for the influence that he and Jimmy had on this young teen living in the San Francisco Bay area in the early fifties. I used to listen to KVSM on the San Mateo bridge and Cottonseed Clark and they used to play Jimmy and Speedy's great instrumentals and I had no desire to get into trouble and it's a shame that stations don't play instrumentals like they used to when Chet also was in the play rotation along with Arthur "Guitar Boogie" Smith and some of those great pickers of that day, Gary.

I first heard Speedy on some of my brother's records about 1953 or 1954, and hearing him is the reason I took up steel guitar....what a thrill for me almost 50 years later to get to know Speedy and Mary, spend the night with them, and to have him write the liner notes for my first instrumental CD album!!He will always be my hero. Thanks Speedy. Tim, tell him he always has a fan in Arizona!!
