I know this subject has been brought up many times here on the forum,,,how to cure string twang.
My Emmons has had a third string twang that has about drove me NUTS!!
The puller has a mirror finish, no grooves. I looked at the rollers & nothing there. Different strings, still twang.
Ive herd of putting mylar, paper, plastic strips & other things under the string at the pullers.
Changing rollers, oil on the rollers & pullers,,,,
and then it hit me
After some thought, I figured the twang is caused basically by vibration .
I had some clear silicone sealer in a little tube, the kind you use to seal around windows Etc. I put a tiny drop on the string right at the puller & twang is no more!!
No loss of string tone , at least I cant hear it if there is. The silicone simply wipes right off at string change
Even though I cant track down the cause of the twang, at least there is a simple way to cure it for the time being.
Im going to keep the little tube of sealer & a couple of Q tips in my equipment now.
For those with a twanging string,,,try this ??
Id be real interested to know if it works for you? _________________ steelguitarguy.com |

You may already know this, but if the surface doesn't have a proper radius, no amount of polishing will eliminate the "twanging, singing" sound. Many players, in their efforts to rework the contact area, actually make it worse by increasing the radius. Many manufacturers also don't help matters, they make the pillow blocks of the changer lower than the height of the finger plus the string, so that if the guitar is ever exposed to pressure from the top, the strings get pushed into the tops of the fingers. |

Hi Donny
I do suspect the changer is out of radius. This is a very old Emmons & the changer may have been polished many many times.
I will probably exchange changers at some point, with one of the wound string changers,,7th or 8th string changer.
Thanks for the Info. though _________________ steelguitarguy.com |
