Ok, I replaced the tone and volume pots and cap on my no name National lookin lap steel. I have an almost identical lookin lap that is a National and both were wired up like this.

I wired up the no name like this with the new parts and now I'm gettin a loud hum like something isn't grounded...what gives? Do the new parts have to wired up different?

The middle lug (connected to the wiper in the potentiometer) needs to be "involved" in your tone scheme ... or you don't have a "variable" resistor ... ???

I just replied to your email ... with an appropriate fix.
