Getting scotch tape residue off formica finish?

GoofOff removed duct tape residue just fine, but the scotch tape that's been on this one for years doesn't seem to want to go. Any suggestions? Thanks a lot!

3m makes a general adhesive remover that works well, and is not that strong. You may have to shop at an auto parts store to find it.

The Goo Gone works pretty well on scotch tape if you wet a paper towel with the stuff and lay it on the tape for a while to kind of soak in. I think it manages to finally seep under the tape. Keep working the edges of the tape every ten minutes or so. Lighter fluid, naptha and the other things mentioned probably will work the same way, I just happen to have experience with Goo Gone.

I use rubbing alcohol to clean up things. It will not harm any surface.
I just cleaned up a preamp where there was residue from what looked like white medical tape.

I've had great results using both Goo Gone and WD-40. That's all I use WD-40 for...cleaning stuff.

I've also heard that peanut butter works well.

Tape that's been stuck on there that long will be tough to remove. You'll need to soak it for a while.

Down here in Australia we use eucalyptus oil on anything sticky like scotch take. Works wonders.

Agreed!........both work equally well as solvents which dissolve the adhesive so it can be wiped off.

I use lighter fluid exclusively, any brand. It has always worked, old tape or new, dried out masking tape, bumper stickers, Scotch Tape, packing tape, everything. After opening a package I use lighter fluid to clean the knife blade. Only use a drop, or a drop at a time. Sometimes I put the drop on a tissue and wipe the last of the stickum off. I haven't run across any surface that was damaged by it.
