Where the Vineyards Meet the Redwoods

Post by Bobby Lee »

The Forum is moving to Cloverdale, California, about 35 miles north of Santa Rosa. I found a new house up there and signed the papers on it last week. I also found office space for the Forum and signed the lease on that. Our new address is:

The Steel Guitar Forum
148 S. Cloverdale Blvd.
Cloverdale, CA 95425
USA

I'm keeping the office in Santa Rosa open through December, so that I can move at a relaxed pace. I don't have a phone in Cloverdale yet. I'll be picking up mail in both places all month.

This is a significant change for us. We've grown tired of the noise and hassle of living in the city. Cloverdale is a beautiful little town surrounded by vineyards and redwoods. A freeway runs through it, but there's not much traffic on it. Two members of my band live there. I think we'll stay there for a long, long time. Image

I only have 6 more Chemotherapy treatments to go. After the first of the year ole Rusty and I can come up and help you water the trees.

You'll like the less hassle/traffic area. We moved in August from a high density population area (northern Tampa/Clearwater suburb) to Inverness, about 60 miles north.

Will you be able to keep the DSL in the new location??

There's no DSL in Cloverdale. I've been looking into T1, but the cheapest I've found is $995/month. It seems they'd have to run a dedicated line all the way back to Santa Rosa! Image

Anyone want to buy a nice house in Santa Rosa? Image

Bob
How I envy you. Cloverdale is a great little town. My wife and I have always said that of the places we've lived (Gilroy, San Jose, Santa Cruz, the wine country, Reno area, and Mesa) We miss the Santa Rosa area the most.

All the best - hope you & Mrs Lee enjoy the peace & quiet (though Santa Rosa seemed like a nice town for the couple of days we were there...). After 35 years mostly in either London or Paris, I'd REALLY like to get somewhere quiet!
I hope (for your sake) this doesn't result in a long commute, though...?

I'll be commuting to Santa Rosa for a few weeks in December. After that, It's just a 5-minute drive to the new office in downtown Cloverdale. Image

Nice move Bob. Hope you and Mrs. Lee really enjoy the new place. The reason there's not much traffic on 101 through Cloverdale is it all got stuck in S. Rosa! Image

Bob, you might check into satellite internet service. I live in the country also, so I had Starband installed and it works good most of the time. There is a little time lag connecting to a site, but once the link is made, the service is fast. We have a T1 at work and I'm kind of spoiled to that, but the Satellite sure beats a dial-up. I think Earthlink is also offering satellite service. My monthly rate is around $79.95 for the internet service, and then I get 150 channels of satellite TV for an additional $19.95 and it uses the same dish.
[This message was edited by Darvin Willhoite on 28 November 2001 at 05:00 PM.]

I used to love Santa Rosa in the 60's, 25000 people and I knew a lot of them. When I left it was starting to boom. So I left.

I taught guitar there , Sebastopol, and Petaluma. I played in some nice clubs there and some dirty old bars too.I was member of Local 297 there, I think that was the number.

That is a nice area you moved to Bobby. Smart thinking.

I forget how many miles from Santa Rosa. I remember playing a couple of club jobs in Ukiah , if I remember that was 70 miles. I think Cloverdale was about half way. Am I right?

Well, good luck in your move. I am sure you will really like it. I was just going to send a Donation. Where should I send it?....al.... Image Image Image Image

Bobby Lee,
what a wonderful old saw mill town. Growing up in California, I used to visit relatives there in Cloverdale. It was always one of my favorite towns. I think I still have cousins around there. You are going to love it there.
By the way, I will be spending a week over Christmas at my folks house in Tracy. Would love to hear you and the band play while I'm out there!

I've seen the house b0b is moving out of.... it is a nice place.

Bob, you think Santa Rosa is stressful? I could feel my blood pressure drop when I came up to visit from San Jose a few months back. Once you get to Cloverdale, your blood pressure will go to zero! Be careful! Image Any room up that way for me? Maybe I could telecommute to Silicon Valley.

Yes, Cloverdale is halfway between Ukiah and Santa Rosa.

The remark about Cloverdale being a "sawmill town" is appropriate. The mill is now just a big lumberyard, I think. You all know that I play music with John Reese, right? Well, his sister owns that lumberyard, and he has a mobile home on the property. Small world...

Bill, the house in Santa Rosa is for sale. I'll even throw in some free steel lessons. Image

Dave, I have no gigs until New Years Eve. We're doing a private shindig in Cloverdale.

Ah ha! Finally got smart, did you? There's lots of trade offs in life, but I always hold out for the rocks, the trees, the hills, the green grass.....

Congrats on a good choice.

Earth First! apparently also calls Cloverdale home. They may be part of the reason that old sawmill is now a lumber yard! Image
[This message was edited by Bill Llewellyn on 30 November 2001 at 08:51 AM.]
