A very good interview with DaShawn Hickman, steel player for The Allen Boys, and a couple of songs are featured on this page from The Independent Weekly:

He really gets a nice Sacred Steel tone. It makes me wonder what kind of wah pedal he uses.

DaShawn Hickman sure plays the sweet gospel blues steel with the touch of someone really feeling the music. I wonder if he gets the tone by rocking the wah back half way and then using the volume pedal. Sounds like he rolls off the highs to stay round also!?
Thanks for the post b0b.

Really an excellent player, for certain..

This is not a negative comment just an observation... Some of the SS steel players/groups sound like good blues rock jam guitarists.. That was great but I have heard 95% of it a million times except it was done by guitarists.. I get the same vibe hearing RR.. I just can't shake it, and again, its just a feeling/observation, NOT a putdown,, these are GREAT steel guitaists in the style they play..

.. I heard Some Campell bros not long ago, but didn't get the same vibe.. That music had a more unique steel guitar thing going on to my way of hearing things....

I dunno, maybe I just need to have some sense smacked into me.. I like the SS thing, but I always get this "why bother using a steel" thing going on in my head,.. it sounds like a really good guitarist doing hot blues rock licks... bob
