Would you folks please recommend some good albums to get some exposure to the "Cajun steel" style of steel playing? I've heard the style mentioned a lot here lately; I'm not familiar with it, but I would like to hear some good examples of it.

Thank you, and Happy New Year!
Cliff

He's a fast, furious, unrepentant Cajun for shore. Aaaiyeee!
Also check out Jimmy C. Newman.

In the "Pete Drake C6th playing" thread Marty Muse mentions Ralph Mooney saying his style was influenced by steel playing in Cajun music, and since Mooney's style was pretty much in place by the late 50's he must have been referring to music from the 50's (or even earlier).

Anyone here have any knowledge of steel in Cajun music from that era?

Belton Richard, Aldus Roget, Joe Bonsall, These artists will tend to have steel on their recordings. And many others of course.

I have a couple of Dan Cormier's cajum band CD's.

Nice stuff. Danny plays steel instead of a guitar in the band.
Fiddle, accordian, bass, drums, and steel with fine singing.
Works for me.

A friend is playing some cuts in his
Cajum food restaraunt on the island.
