It used to be ". . . don't fix it."
In today's world where almost nothing stays the same for more than 2 minutes the ending for the above is probably something like ". . we'll break it."
Earlier today I was watching the New Year's Day Concert from Vienna and couldn't help thinking that if anyone of the Strauss family had walked into that concert hall their music would have been immediately recognisable. I'm sure that would be the case with all of the classical composers and the way their music is still played today. How rare for anything to remain unchanged for any length of time !
While many of you won't care much for Country Music you can't have missed how it has changed out of all recognition in just the space of about 20 - 30 years.
I recently tuned in to the annual CMA Awards for about 20 - 25 minutes. (That was about as long as I could endure.) The only "act" that was bearable were The Eagles ~ and they're still playing more or less the same kind of music as they were 30 odd years ago. Back then, they were considered "Country Rock" and essentially remain so, yet they sounded much more Country than any of the so-called Country "Stars" that I suffered. It was like a heavy rock "concert"
Why, why, why does almost everything have to "progress" "move forward" in our modern world ?
(I know the country music thing has been lamented before ~ but I just wanted a New Year's rant !)
Maybe next New Year will find me in Vienna ? ? ?

That's capitalism at work. You see, other than advertising, the only three ways to get an increase in sales (for anything) are...
1.) Change the product
2.) Improve the quality
3.) Lower the price
Therefore, they choose #1, to change the product.
Improving the quality in music is pretty useless, since 95% of the buyers don't know quality when they hear it - they've been raised on trash, and peer pressure forces them to adhere to liking trash.
The third alternative, lower the prices, hurts both the execs and the ego-driven stars, so that's not about to happen either!  |

Most of the music I really like, no matter what genre, was at least written, if not last performed, before I was born. But in most areas of life, I find myself a little different than most people. So I don't worry. I don't really think anybody else should either. Anybody who plays a steel guitar ought to expect to be out of the mainstream. Even during the steel's heydays, that seems to have been the case.

Even if you don't like the Eagles music, you gotta love this response from them. To honor the GOO over the Superbowl shows a lot of class in my book.
