This is that great old Clyde McCoy tune - but instead of a trumpet and a mute, it's Herb Remington on Steel Guitar and a wah-wah pedal.
From the Pure Remington Steel Album, which is now available for the first time on CD.

I remember that one. I was only about ten years old visiting my sister in Indiana and she had a 78rpm that had a picture on it instead of the usual black vinyl. It was Clyde McCoy with Sugar Blues on one side and Basin St. Blues on the other. I knew then that I wanted to make music. Still trying sixty years later and having fun doing it.

Thank you Mike - and may '08 be a great year for you & Susan also.
That's pretty cool Jude - I imagine that record would be worth a few bucks now.
I know what you mean, I was just a little kid when I first heard it - and it made a big impression on me too.
Roy, he's amazing. When you start listening to all the stuff he has recorded over the last 60+ years, it makes you realize what a great musical journey he's been on.
And he's still going strong (although he and Mel both have the flu really bad right now).
Billy, I haven't heard that version. I'd sure like to . .

Beautiful!
Lot's of kids in the 60s did not know what the reference to Clyde McCoy was in the promo that came with those new fangled wah wah pedals!
I played trumpet so I knew who he was. |

I'm glad you all are enjoying it. This album is full of wonderful tunes.
Herb used the wah wah in several of them, best use of it I've heard.
Recorded in 1973, the songs on PURE REMINGTON STEEL are:
Blue Spanish Eyes
Java
Elmer's Tune
The Pookie
Sleepwalk
Sugar Blues
Under The Double Eagle
Roadside Rag
Remington Ride
Boot Heel Drag
Somewhere My Love
Release Me
Some excellent musicians were on this session along with Herb:
Loran Mitchell - Piano
Pete Scholz - Bass
Dave Weinstein - Drums
Danny Ross - Guitar
Bob White & Clyde Brewer - fiddles
(doing some really great twin fiddle arrangements) |
