I saw the show a few nights ago on PBS. I thought it was awesome seeing Clapton playing "Matchbox" with Carl Perkins and Cash. I didn't know that performance even existed.

I could tell Clapton was in awe of Perkins as he took his turn playing lead.

I remember watching the original airings of this show on ABC back in my college daze. I was blown away by this show! It changed my perception of Johnny Cash forever. Bob Dylan, Linda Ronstadt, and Neil Young also appeared on the show. I have a vivid memory of watching the Clapton-Perkins performance, and I couldn't belive what I was seeing. Back in those days TV was pretty bland, mostly game shows, sitcoms, and no cable. Just a few stations to watch. So this was groundbreaking stuff.

the two dvd set is in stores now. I have it and recommend it highly. Not an abundance of steel but certainly an abundance of great and interesting performances. Highlights for me from the dvd set were George Jones, Conway Twitty, and Hank Jr. doing an absolutely crushing medley of Hank Sr. songs.
