Topic: PF1 Pickup |

I am having a new guitar built by Ronnie Bennett and am considering putting a PF1 in it. Is anybody out there using one with a NV112, and how does it differ from your original Pickup.
Are thr any radical changes in the highs or lows.

| I fitted a PF1 to my old Shobud Pro 1 a few years back, was never really happy with it, ended up using an E66. Much clearer sound, not as muddy sounding as the PF1.Although I have to say string seperation on both the PF1 and E66 was much better than the original Shobud pick up.The E66 gave me much better bottom end and sweeter highs.As in everthing about pickups it is all down to your own ear and taste, with so may variables such as make of guitar,the impedance of the pup, how you play(attack) .As the saying goes "ya pays yar money and ya takes yar choice". |

| Ray, I put a PF on my Sho-Bud and a TW, both made a big difference to the sound of the guitar, first the PF replaced the 66 on the front neck and the TW replaced the sho-bud on the rear neck. I got much more sustain from both and is more of a modern steel sound rather then the old Bud sound, tighter sound all round much more balanced across the strings. Of course this was what I wanted as I perfer that sound, the sho-bud pick-ups sounded tired and out of date due to the way they were made back 30 years ago, the windings do start to get slack and microphonic with age. The PF is a very good PU. But that is just MHO. |

| I had a PF 1 on my Rains and it sound great and if i ever go back to a GL it will be a PF series. |

Ray, why not consider a Wallace TT. Ronnie Bennette's steels are solidly built like Sho-Buds, and may 'Bud players are using Wallace Pickups. Good price and a good guy to deal with. Having said that, your existing D-10 Bennett has Ronnie's own pickups hasn't it?? sounds great to me

Hi Micky,
I am having a change this time, An aluminium neck as opposed to the wood, I agree Ronnies P/up is fine no complaints there,I picked up a PF1 at a good price so it fitted the bill as far as a complete change went. I am having my D10 reconditioned after 25years she deserves it . The new one should be ready around mid Jan.

Good to hear back from you Ray. Jess and I are moving mid January....just 20 mins down the road, so it's all boxes of stuff all over the place at the moment. Hope you all had a good Christmas. I've pledged to go on a diet now

Hi Ray, Re the cases,i've been in touch with Kevin Hatton, and will contact him again after my house move. Ken Byng had Kevin's split case for his Pro 111 Sho-Bud and he's very pleased. They are also on wheels and look good There are pictures on this forum somewhere of Kevin's website, I think it's on "pedal steel" under heading of "split cases" Re your new Bennett,I could have viewed it on my next M.O.T. at Harefield hospital in March, but it may have to be postponed as I have to have my Hernia op. That op was scheduled for today (27th), but with a house move there is lifting to do, so that op has to be re/scheduled hopefully for Feb!!

howdy, reguarding, the expression, mycrophonic, on my early, pro1, rack and barrel, it sounds fine till i get past the twelve, or thirteenth fret, after that it sounds sorta week and no guts to it, somtimes harmonic,? is it my playing , or do all steels have this inherent, problem, lew,
