This is pretty useful in a lot of tunes. Note that the first part could be played on strings 1 and 2 at the 8th fret, avoiding bar movement, but it sounds different that way and you'd lose the effect of the pedal sound.

Thanks for all these tabs Greg.

Mike, my music knowledge is so limited I had to Google that to figure out if you were serious and you were! Well at least we now have a name for this riff.

If you want a lower voicing of this, it's available on the standard C6th copedant strings 2 and 3 using pedals 6 and 7.

Thanks for posting the riff Greg, great work, as always.

I guess I'm showing my age here Winking ... but "The Boy From New York City" was a hit record in 1965, by The Ad Libs, a 'one hit wonder'. This brings back a lot of memories. I remember hearing this song and many others blasting through my little transistor radio when I was a 15 year old kid.

Great post Doug! What a cool song with great drums, horns and a cross between a lot of musical styles. I am pretty sure I never heard that before but then my musical tastes were extremely sterile 20 years ago and I missed a lot of great music that way.

Great little video clip. I was a kid of about 10 (also with a transistor radio) when this tune came out. Doug, you must be five years older than me! Razz I also recognized every street in the video of my home town.

Thanks for your instruction, Greg. Playing along with the licks has opened some doors and led to further exploration. I have also appreciated your arrangements of the "standards".

The Memphis vamp makes me think of the opening number in Sesame Street:

Although, the "beatboxing flute" version is nice too:

I can see where Mike hear the similarity to Boy From NYC .. but I would still call it a "memphis" vamp.
