Has anyone heard anything on Red lately. Is he OK and does he still make appearences? He was one of my favorite singers and writers. Got to pick with him once at Pats Place on Surfside Beach. Jody. |

Jody, we saw him at the Cowboy Symposium in Ruidoso, NM, back in October. He put on a great show telling stories, reciting cowboy poetry, etc. He did a show with a full band and then later we also saw him doing just a trio, with his brother on bass and the fabulous Rich O'Brien on guitar. He is quite a showman! |

Check out my review on Red's latest CD in the "Review" section of my "Swingin' West" web site. www.swinginwest.com
It is a fantastic album. Carp plays some awesome steel! _________________ Mike |

Jody, Red is doing well and still making appearances. As Dave said they just had the annual Red Steagall Cowboy Gathering Which stopped overnight here in Weatherford, Texas then on to the Fort Worth Stockyards. Red has a Sunday morning Radio Show, and is making appearances all over the place. I like you feel that Red is one of the greats, I still have all his old stuff that Sonny Garish played steel on. One of my all time favorites of course is his "Red Steagall Lone Star Beer and Bob Wills Music/For all My Cowboy Friends" Sonny tears it up on "Truck Drivin' Man. I still have the original album, 8 track, cassette and the CD. That one album was able to get me more than a few miles down the road when I was rodeoing. That was back when Larry Mahan, Monty "Hawkeye" Henson, and the likes were kings of Rodeo.
Jody sorry to ramble but you struck a chord in me mentioning Red Steagall, those were some good times, rough but good. |

Hi Mark, It was in the middle 70's and Red was real hot. My favorite cuts were 'Somewhere My Love"(swing style" and "I Wish I Felt This Way At Home", a great ballad. Red was only going to do one set, and after hearing me play, he asked if I knew his material, and I did, so James didn't set up his steel and I did the set. Red Steagall, one of the greatest and a super nice guy. Jody. |
