Hi Friends, I got my Carter used in 2003. It's a 2000 model. Recently I got fed up with the "Black" so I decided to do something about the front Apron and the top nearest the player. This worked out very inexpensive. I got some "Fablon" in Mahogany wood, and applied it carefully to the front Apron and the top. I then went to a hobby craft shop and got some "Sparkly" strips to attach to the front metal strips. Then I got some white pin stripes off ebay, and then got busy with my electric engraver and worked carefully on the pedal rack. Maybe hard to see in the following pictures, but it is a floral scene with mountains and a log cabin towards the centre. The "fablon" is good stuff, feels like wood when you run your nail against the grain...and "MOST" important,it has "NOT" affected the tone whatsoever. I'm fortunate that art was my favourite subject at school, so if you can draw, you can engrave. I did the same to my Sho-Bud as some of you may have seen in another thread recently.
This may not be for everyone I do understand that, but I've always been individualistic and like to have something out of the ordinary. Hope you like my efforts Smile

Micky:

I really like the look. You have done a great job and have made your guitar unique. The engraving on the pedal bar looks wonderful in the photos, and I can imagine it is even better 'in person'.

If you wouldn't mind sharing some additional info, I have a couple of questons: Did you use an adhesive to apply the Fablon to the front of the guitar? Does Carter sell logo decals?

You have an "axe" to be proud of, Thank you for sharing it with the rest of us.

Micky , thats a great job, you could do that as job, there must be lots of scruffy steels about that need a makeover. How about a title for your business.

Hi John (Lemaster) re the "Fablon" ... it comes in a roll, in various finishes and has a sticky side when you peel the backing paper off. It won't come off easily. Re the Carter Decals, about a year or so ago I contacted Ann Fabian to get a new logo to replace the original one. Well there were e'mails to and fro with regards my order because Ann had my old visa number, and to cut the long story short, I had an envelope in the mail with 2 new logos kindly sent by Ann as you've seen on the steel. I was going to put a thread about guys with Mica guitars who wanted to change the look, but I thought all you forumites would have jumped down my throat and I didn't want that, but now it seems it's ok with at least some of you. It's really an inexpensive way for a new look, all it takes is about an hour of your life. Engraving took several hours, and you gotta know what you are doing Smile one slip and you're in a deep creek without a paddle Very Happy

Thank you Ken Pippus. On both my engraved steels the Carter and the Bud.....apart of them looking individual, I engrave my name on the underside of the pedal/rack. More people should do this. Easy enough to do if you're not going in for the artwork. Keep a potential thief at bay from using a stolen steel in public or even trying to sell it on Smile
