Buddy, unless it's completely broken, you can take them apart by bending the tangs up. (Don't lose the spring)
Clean the grease out, and take a pencil eraser to clean the contacts off. Get rid of the residue, (from the eraser) then put a little electrical contact grease on the contacts.
Put it back together, being careful not to squeeze too hard on the tangs when bending them back down, and you'll be good to go for a lifetime.
I use pliers, to take them apart, and to put them back together. The inner lip of the pliars, catches the little tang, then just rock the pliars back and up comes the tang.
Note: Hold pressure down on the two sections so it doesn't fly apart after bending up the tangs. Then just let it come apart slowly, so you don't lose the spring
actually takes about 10 to 15 minutes, start to finish. |
