I came home tonight to find my family watching old Sesame Street tunes on You Tube. Among them was the classic "The Sign Says Don't Walk". Had pedal steel virtually from start to finish. I told them that someone one here probably knew who played on it. Anybody care to prove me right?

"The J Song" is from back in the day when we had REAL songs about individual letters of the alphabet.

the "J Song" is freaking great!
I had that on one of my son's old Sesame Street VHS tapes when I first took up the steel, and it was a great example of uptempo E9 playing. I remember it from when I was a kid too.

so who is it?

could be Jay Dee... that would be fitting.

Thanks for posting the clip Michael.

Yes, "The Sign Says Don't Walk" was a brilliant little number I always thought.

My daughter's superior research skills have uncovered the fact that an individual named Michael Wells Played steel on a number of Sesame street songs in the 80's, but she found no information about whether it was him on "Don't Walk" or J. Anybody know him?

Tommy, the name Michael Wells and also Mickey Wells (same guy?)gets a credit for pedal steel on some of the old Sesame Street stuff - I just went and had a look myself. Does "Mickey Wells" ring any bells?
