Shocked How good was that??!!!
I have a CD of Alvino coming from Santa (if I am good), and can't wait to listen to it over and over to soak up those sounds and ideas!

Honestly, the level of musicianship in "popular" music in those days of yore just seemed to be outstanding more often than not. The singers, what brilliant harmonies! And yet that style of vocal arrangement was fairly typical of that time, was it not?
Not to mention everyone was playing "live" and I assume it's all recorded in one take!
No No I am not a crusty old-timer who doesn't like today's music, but that was just awesome.
Thanks for sharing, Merry Christmas.

As with many of you who still have Alvino's old "78" of St. Louis Blues and wondered how in the world he got that sound, it is great to see this "Big Band Master" in action ! Alvino Rey is the godfather of the big band (pedal) steel and his tone was always "his", seldom if ever duplicated. I'm wondering if someone out there might have a video of his "Tiger Rag" which was such an exciting arrangement. Very Happy
