Hi folks,
Last Saturday I came up with a little bluesy idea for a tune on my old Oahu acoustic lap steel, I recorded a one-take demo (humming the vocals) and put it on youtube just to get some feedback. Today it turns out that the youtube editors picked this clip and put it on their "front page" in the music category as "Featured Videos selected by YouTube Editors"! It has 3,200 views today and counting! And loads of comments from viewers who are clearly not of the "global slide/steel enthusiast community" .
Quite a surprise! Cool but also a bit awkward - it's a quite personal rough take of a work-in-progress and I don't think I would have uploaded it if I knew it would get this kind of exposure.
Anyway, there you go - today the world's youtube teens got a tiny dose of lap steeling with their breakfast cereals.
Here is the clip by the way:

Congrats on the featured spot, Fred.
I like the blues-y groove of the track, too.

Absolutely nothing wrong with that. The Youtube editors obviously had a case of uncharacteristically good taste.
Good on you Fred _________________ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Very nice playing! I like the tune a lot. I can easily see why they picked your video. |

Well done mate!
I liked your vocalising over the top of your playing too, do you practice that sort of thing or was that spontaneous?
I have heard it is a good way to practice scales, by singing along with your playing... I have enough trouble keeping the guitar on pitch!
Congratulations, and Merry Christmas. _________________ If it’s on the ground it can’t fall down. |

Just checked it out, brilliant stuff. Doesn't surprise me that it's getting across so well, there's people that are looking for some honest good playing, no pretense, and that's what you're doing. May we have some mo? |

Very cool Fred - you even created controversy, which is essential if you want to become famous.
That's a genuine mood piece - really well done! _________________

Hey, everyone, thanks so much for the great response to my music! I'm really glad you liked the little tune-in-progress!
This must be the most exposure any piece of music I've made have gotten in a short space of time (more that 10,000 views yesterday and today ) and it is quite funny that this happens to the roughest demo I've ever "made public".

Thanks Dean! It was all pretty spontaneous, but I want to explore making this kind of music more. This is the first time in quite a while I've played in open D tuning (actually tuned down quite a bit below D - B-flat I think) and it suits this guitar very well.
Thanks again all of you and have a great time over the holidays!
