The Mobile Steel show was again a good-un. kicking off at 10:00AM, we found ourselves with a house full of fans. By 12:00 noon we were almost to capacity.
John Hughey came on at 12:00 noon, and recieved a thunderous, standing ovation. Then Doug Jernigan, and Herby Wallace were asked to do more after they got their standing ovation. The fans were really into the show and they let the players know it.
We had guest from Florida, Mississippi, Arkansas, Tenn, Okla, Georgia, and on and on.
The big set came at 9:00PM, when John, Doug, and Herby, locked horns on the stage at the same time. This brought the fans to their feet on several occassions, and the finishing touch was Hal Higgins singing, How Great Thou Art to close the show.
Amoung the fantastic players on the show were Autry Rutledge, Bill Stafford, Larry Bullock, Jimmy Powell, Jimmy miller, and Tony Lane. Louise Gerald, also made the fans leave their seats with her segment of the show. By the way, Roy Rosetta, and Paul Polish were booked back for next years show already scheduled for July 13th, 2002. We all had the opportunity to witness the world class guitar playing by Dusty Harrell. Sure wish each and every member here on the forum could have been here for the greatest. Looking forward now to next year so make you plans.----------Ben

Wow...I agree with Ben !! This was a great show. What more can you say about Herby, John and Doug that hasn't already been said. But just in case you haven't heard it, let me say, these guys are world class players. Thanks to Ben and Wayne for bringing in an array of fine steel guitar players from the southeastern part of the country. All of the players were "super" and represented the steel guitar community in fine style. Thanks also for having me be a part of this fine show and also for bringing by drummer buddy Paul Polish in so that we could lend a "taste of Texas" to the show.

Well, I must add my two cents worth. As most of you know, I do a lot of steel guitar shows around the country and this was, without a doubt, one of the finest I have had the pleasure of playing. Everything was first class. Ben O'Dell brought in a great band including himself on bass. Again, as I've said many times before, this is one of the most important parts of any successful steel guitar show and it worked. When we have a good backup band, it makes it all a pleasure for us to play. In other words, we don't have to make excuses about we can't play this song or that song. Another thing that impressed me about this great show was the lineup in that all the players on the show were excellent players.

Anyone in the area who missed this one really missed a good one!

Wanted to jump in here.. Thanks to Ben, Wayne and all of the folks involved in putting on one of the most fun shows I've had the pleasure of working. All of the players were great and brought their own styles of playing with them. That's what I enjoy. Being a rookie steel player myself it's fun to here some different styles [opinions] of how to play this thing called the Steel Guitar.
Of Course, I can't leave out my friend The Big "R" Roy R. He's always a thrill to work with as well as my friend John,Herby and Doug. And of course all my "new" friends from the Southeast region of the country.
Once again, Thanks for having me and I'm aready looking forward to next year. Paul

Great time was had. I want to personally thank Roy and Paul for their talent and support for all the players. And, in my opinion, these two musicians are much more than "back-up" players. It is always a pleasure to see and hear them perform. I appreciate the support you gave to Mrs Debbie Moore who graced my part of this show with her vocal talent.
Thanks guys, see you all in St. Louis.

I thank all of you for your kind words. I am still in shock at the performances from all of you and can hardly wait till next year. Sorry about going brain dead on that SUPER set. It was a long day.
Another one of the great things that made the show was our staff. We are getting emails and calls praising them, and a few have already been hired to work the Pecan Festival, they will all return to the Steel Show next year.
Thanks Again
Ben
