It's not a CBG but an LBG (Lap Box Guitar)!

Okay no laughing ladies and gents
I've been building CBGs (Cigar Box Guitars) for the past few months but I started building what I call an LBG or Lap Box Guitar just a few weeks ago. This one is my latest creation - The Micubano LBG 6. Six string, 25.5" scale, red oak neck, maple fingerboard w/jumbo frets and abalone inlays, Kluson style tuners, ebony capped bridge and a bone nut. Most of my designs have been string through but I tried an oak tailpiece with rosewood pins for this one. It has a Badcatt transducer inside which allows you to plug in as well. She really sounds pretty good considering it has a cigar box for a body! Since it is an acoustic instrument it sounds more like a reso than a lap steel except brighter. I have an 8 string version on the bench right now and a 23.5" scale neck for another 6 string almost complete.
I've fondly gazed upon the gorgeous steels that several formites have built as of late. There are some serious wood artists among the SGF members! Of course I realize my LBGs pale in comparision but with my limited wood working skills I was still able to turned out a unique playable instrument. Most of all, it is just plain fun

I agree with Tom, those are pretty kool looking.I have heard some of CBG on Youtube and its a interesting sound. Might just have to try one when I locate a decent cigar box.

Tom....thanks for the compliment! Your steels are a shining example of the passion, skill and artistry that go into building an instrument.

Gary.....it's a fun weekend winter project and you'll be surprised with the results.

Here is the the string through version. It has more sustain (harmonics last forever!)and not quite as bright a tone. I've been experimenting with sound posts and bracing as well.
