I work at an old-line big-deal TV network that begain as a radio network in 1926. Because management doesn't fritter away large sums in paying videotape librarians, there are still respectable profits--even in a twilight industry like ours is becoming--and we have brand-new Dell PCs.
But on IE (don't know version, but it must be up-to-date also) when I'm navigating between Earthlink's home page -> WebMail Page and especially to individual emails, the text won't display. Or will only partially display. Sometimes clicking on the (X) Stop button will scare some or all of the text onto the screen, but not all, not always and not reliably. There are other toggling strategies I use, but it's ridiculously frustrating. There is an "Error on Page!" message in the lower left corner of the browser window.
Is this a Java problem, a pop-up blocker issue, IT's monitoring software or just Windows'/Intel's trademark contrary obtuseness?
(Makes me prouder to have been, as a private citizen, a Mac user since 1990. Apple's TV commercials don't state the half of it.)

This might be easily explained as a "font-size" problem. Perhaps the default font face and size is set too large for your screen resolution setting? Try changing the Internet Explorer default font to Arial, or Verdana and see if that helps. If not, the web site may be specifying a font type and size in a stylesheet or CSS rule. You can easily change the font sizes by rolling the wheel on a wheel mouse forward or backward, one click at a time, while holding down the Control key. Internet Explorer increases font sizes as you roll forward, while Firefox increases fonts by rolling backward.
If your mouse lacks a wheel you can use the "View" menu item > "Text Size" on your browser to alter the font size. IE 7 even has a font size selector in the Status bar, at the bottom right.
It is possible to override website font rules with your own, in most any browser. Open your Internet Options to the General Tab page and click on the Fonts button to change the font face. To override website style sheets click on the Accessibility button and make some choices and save them.
The general display settings contain font size options, including normal and large fonts. Right-click on the Windows Desktop and choose Properties and the Display Properties box will open. Now, click on the Appearance tab. There are three font size settings under the option area labeled Fonts. Choose one and hit Apply, then OK. The fonts everywhere will be reset after you refresh page views and icons (click on desktop and hit F5).
I hope this helps. _________________ "Wiz" Feinberg, Moderator SGF Computers Forum

I'll give those suggestions a try, especially if this meantime discovery doesn't prove consistent: I just found that hitting Right-Click (WHAT-Click?!? said the Mac guy) Refresh then Stop/(X) seems to work in making everything visible. _________________ "Gopher, Everett?" |
