We just finished beta testing the new version. I'm curious to see how the steel guitar world accepts it. There are some new features called realtracks. There is realsax, realguitar, and realpedal. These are real instruments that will play solos and fills, and they sound really good, especially the pedal steel. I don't know whether to love it, hate it, or feel intimidated by it. I don't know who the steeler was but he's a good one. |

Being a former sax player and presently 'attacking' the steel guitar, I have only one thing to say, "This intimidates the heck out of me". Man what a sound reproduction that is.
Any chance of getting a discount from you Howard?
In all seriousness when will it be available? Do you know?

I was more impressed with the sax and pedal steel than the guitar. That pedal steel was especially sweet soundin. What about the "real drums" feature? Are there any more improvements or styles available? |

That was my thought too, it sounds better then me. I don't think it will replace us on the bandstand though. And yes, there are several more sets of real drums, I believe twenty all together. I think they addressed Latin styles more then country with the realdrums, but there are more country and country rock styles.
Phred,if I could pick like you I wouldn't be intimidated by any one. |

I use BIAB strickly to practice playin my steel with so even though the pedal steel sounds pretty darn good I couldn't see usin it much. I suppose you couldn't generate a steel solo in your rhythm track and get some ideas from it maybe. Hmmm? |

I like it. I wondered when a new BIAB was coming out. It makes it even more worthwhile to get. |

Well, I bought and downloaded 2008. So far it seems OK.
Pedal Steel. One thing they don't tell you in the features video, which features steel guitar in the first song, is that even tho you load a song that features steel, you have to go get the steel in what's called real tracks. Then it will play.....unless you have a melody track in the song........You have to delete the melody before it will accept the steel.
I suppose 2008 is worth getting, it has some other features that have been embellished and for 50 bucks if your upgrading it's cool.
I also bought the forti DXi but can't use it because they haven't emailed me with the regristration no. Maybe I'll have to wait till Monday. |

Howard, can you tell me if there have been any major changes in the Biab GUI? I read somewhere that the GUI had been "enhanced". This is critical for me as a blind user who relies on screen reading software to tell me what's going on on-screen. You see, Major changes, especially "under the hood" (window names, window hierarchy etc) cause havoc with my screen reader's scripts.
If the changes are minor and mostly cosmetic in nature, there's a good chance I won't encounter any real problems with 2008, but if there's been a re-vamp of the look and feel of BIAB, then 2008 probably won't work for me (at least not until alot of work re-writing scripts can be done). Please tell me what you can in this regard. _________________ Disclaimer! I make no warranty on the manure I've been spreadin' around here. |

Ken: When I purchased Forte DXI it took a couple days for them to email me. Hang on, it will come. |

Ken, I think you can install and use Forte dxi and it will work for a timed period without the registration number then when you get it you can enter it then. |

Problem is, I already have forte dxi installed and the time period ran out long ago. BIAB gave me the new version but the timer says no deal. I can wait.
Phil: The GUI has changed a little bit, added a square for the new instrument-pedal steel or saxaphone, but mainly it looks the same to me. However i should note the pedal steel is from a wave file . In certain styles it won't load and there is little variance. Best tempo is 85 and at others it doesn't sound so good. I'd say they did half a job in including it and it has limited use.

As to the gui,it looks pretty much the same to me. The changes are some icons on the tool bars, but there are easy options for adding or deleting icons. Little arrows to the right of each tool bar opens dropdowns where you add or delete them. I don't have much need for the realtracks either, but I'm amazed by them. As to erasing the melody to use them, I don't see the need for that, since the realtracks are on the soloist track. If you don't want to hear them together you cam mute either by right clicking them at the top of the page. One of my favorite ways to practice is to go to Allanahs site where there are thousands of BB songs. I pick songs I don't know, then at the melody dropdown at the top of BB I select 'mute melody during middle choruses'. It will play the first time through then let you play the second time, then it plays the last time through.
I don't sell BIAB, and I have nothing to do with the company. I'm just a long time user and I'm fortunate to beta test each year, lots of fun. |
