The other weekend I had the opportunity to watch Mickey Adams play here in Wichita. Unfortunately, he wasn't play steel...just a strat.
If you think he's a great steel player, you gotta see him on a six-string...UNBELIEVEABLE!!!
He was flat tearing it up...he lost the usual lead player multiple times & flat rocked it. Considering that he was just sitting in, he really stole the show. I'm pretty sure that the lead player was glad that Mickey is from Vegas. If he lived in Wichita, I think the lead player would've been out of a job.
Not to mention that Mickey has to be one of the nicest guys you'd ever meet. He's pretty damn awesome!!!

I've known Mickey for most of my life. That dates both of us at 35+ years as friends and picking buddies. I remember when Mickey toured the USA, Europe and Japan (and who knows elsewhere) with "The Buck Star Review". He's a very able player in just about any style you can come up with.
Before he went on the road, we did a last minute pickup gig with some band in the middle of nowhere. It paid $35.00 a night and the gas cost $5.00 to get there and back (at $0.26/gallon). The joint sat right next to the railroad track (like 20-30 ft). Whenever the train(s) passed by, the band would get completely drowned out. Whenever it finally passed, it was interesting to see where everybody was in the song. It was funny to everybody but Mickey; he always kept in place! This is now known as the hometown of "the Kid", Tyler Hall. None other than Montevallo, AL. |

Casey; you lucky dog; getting to hear this excellent steel guitar picker performing on a " Strat". I hear-say that he does as well on lead; but I know he's a great teacher, as many of us forumites are finding out. I watch his clips on U-Tube, every time he posts a new one. A really fine gentleman. I would enjoy heaqring Mickey do a complete steel number some time on U-Tube; how about it, Mickey?Bernie _________________ 2007 Zum S-10; 1967 Sho-Bud [ D-10 ]; 85 S-10 Sierra; 1953 Multi-Kord [ 6 String- 4 pedals ] A Sho-Bro six String Resonator Guitar; Nashville 112 Amp; hilton Vol. Pedal |

Mickey is being modest when he says he was abusing a strat. He made that $150 strat sound like a million bucks!!! He can really do some slick pickin' & he lost the other lead player a bunch...he had to hold up his fingers several times to get the guy back on track & onto the right chord.
I'll also tell ya'll that Mickey is a pretty good singer. He kinda has that Willie Nelson thing going on.
I only wish I could've watched him play steel. I'm always impressed with his youtube postings. I'm sure that I will learn alot from them over time. It sure is nice that we have people like Mickey that are willing to share their knowledge with us new guys.

David,
I think Nick was living every steel guitarists nightmare. Instead of playing to a group of people...he had to play to a group of people with 2 steelers in the crowd & Mickey right on stage.
That would be really intimidating...but ol'Nick did a great job & is quite the player. He's got some great time & some dman nice fills.
Not to mention his one-owner MSA is ULTRA-CLEAN!!!
Casey
P.s. I was shocked & pretty excited when you pointed out Mickey to me. It's not everyday someone like him is playing in Wichita. |
