Hopefully this one will be in my stable soon.
According to the Sierra web site, it's no longer available. Anyone know anything about them? When they were last available, price, etc. I do know that the cherry finish is a hundred dollars more on the eight string. Was it the same option on the six? Anything you can share with me will be appreciated.

Hey Jude,
I'd keep it in the house instead of the stable. It's too nice a guitar for that
Sweet, I've played them, nice axe. Not sure what the going rate is on used ones, but the thing is like a rock (literally), well made, nice tone and sustain. _________________ Chris Kennison

I have the eight string version of this guitar...also a black version. I have seen them sold on the Forum for $500 to $750. I have seen them on ebay reach $800 to $850...sometimes even more. These are fabulous steels...and terribly ignored by the steel playing public in general. All the hype seems to go to the MSA lap models. |

You might try getting in touch with Tom Baker at Sierra directly. He may be able to help you out. _________________ Bob |

That's a robust looking instrument. The ones I have heard had very nice tone. |

That's a fine looking guitar, Jude, and if it's anything like the 8 stringers it will be a killer. Glad to see you won it, I was thinking about pulling the trigger on that one but the guy's zero feedback was a bit scary. Hope it all goes well and you get it safely! |

Mark if you've got a hankerin' for a good six-string I probably could be talked out of the Bluestem.

The 12 string Sierra cherry was selling for $2500.00 and that was maybe 5 years ago.....
I bought one at the Dallas Show at the last moment on Sunday at a negotiated price of $1600.00....I had no idea that Sierra would be closing very shortly after that.... |

The Sierra got to Ohio yesterday, a two day journey via UPS from Missouri. We had a mix-up with the Paypal payment, had to cancel the first one and resend. The seller had used the wrong email address when he opened a Paypal account and it was different than the one on the ebay sale. Lot's of phone calls between Ohio and Missouri. A nice person to deal with but very inexperienced with ebay and Paypal. But it's here now, and it's mine all mine. The serial number is 005 and it's in excellent condition. Heavy, you betcha! It came strung with C6 so I'm having fun getting it used to it's new home. Here's a picture of it setting on my version of the perfect lap steel stand, a small drop front oak secretary. I like it, it's fun to play and that's what it's all about for me.
The white tone bar is a Trib-O-Tone that was special ordered. The first white one made in the Manoloff version. It's only 3.4 oz but holds it's own when compared to the 5.1 oz Red Rajah in tone and sustain. I like them both.
My new mantra, "less posting, more playing".

One of Don Helms students plays an 8 string like that.

I have a black eight string that I ordered during the Texas Steel Guitar Convention when the prototype was displayed. Because it was so heavy, I asked Don Christenson to put four legs on it. Tom Baker did a great job with the legs; it can easily be played standing as well as sitting. It is as solid as a rock and sounds great! It turned out to be serial number 001. |

That laminated aluminum layer in the wood body would be responsible for a lot of the good tone and sustain. |
