Topic: Ralph Emery Returning to Nashville TV |

| Many of you know that I work as a technician for Nashville's WZTV/FOX-17. It's been rumored & HUSH-HUSH for awhile, but now it's official. Ralph Emery's live morning TV Show is returning to the Nashville area. The great thing this time is, that it's coming to our station instead of WSM-TV. It's suppose to be simular to the old channel 4 version with a live Country Band, News, Weather, School Bus info, and of course lots of good country talent. I'm excited about getting to work on the crew. It's scheduled to hit the air sometime in September, 6am till 7am weekdays. Maybe Ralphy will bring ole Sonny Burnett out of retirement to play Steel with the band. Nick |

Nick: That is very good news; Ralph is one of the few hosts that can carry off a Nashville based show, and he's very much missed by the "Real Country" audience.
Ralph's a gentleman, and knows virtually everyone firsthand in country music. I sure welcome his re-appearance on a daily show. |

| Sonny Burnette, Spyder Wilson, etc. I used to watch it frequently when I lived there. A lot of singers would get up early to be on there. |

I hope his attitude has changed a lot.
Durin' the later year or two of his last morning show,He got really arrogant & had a tendency to snap at folks on the air. I thought this was demeaning for a person of his statue. I will look forward to his new morning sho tho,because right now, there's nothing on except that silly snow-bird song which gets irritating as heck after the second time around. Then again,if his new show consist of this NCS,I'm sure its doom to fail. We'll see........ |

Very good, Gregg-o. 
The way I heard it from Kevin Kelley, who played drums for the Byrds (and others, like Taj Mahal) during 1968, when "Sweethearts of the Rodeo" came out, Emery tacked the album cover to the bulletin board at WSM with a sign saying "This is NOT a COUNTRY recording. WSM does NOT play records that are NOT COUNTRY recordings!"
Well, the Byrds were NOT a country act, even with Gram Parsons on board, but Clarence White (who taught me bluegrass guitar) was country as a corncob, lemme tell ya.

| I'll bet even money that Ralph has been given that job to promote the corporate music being offered as country. With all the money and energy being poured into "country" music it's highly doubtful if the powers that be will give ole Ralph any freedom to pursue his own agenda any more than the radio stations that subscribe to the programming. Sorry folks but that's the way it is.... BTW this morning I heard someone say. "I recall my parents talking about lombardo, Goodman, Armstrong and others while I rebeled and sought my own musical tastes. Enjoy the music of today because tomorrow your kids will hate it". Hmmmm |

I agree the Byrds had a country flavor unlike alot of groups back then.
Getting back to Ralph. I sure hope he changes his rude comments and lets the artist answer the question he's ask them.

Larry,
The "Ralph Emery" theme song was called "RELAXING". Both John Hughey & Hal Rugg have CD's with this song as a Steel instrumental.
