Always , Patsy Cline

Post by Walter Jones »

I just read in the local paper that the show is coming to Stuart Opera House in Nelsonville, Ohio this weekend. One show Saturday at 7 PM , Sunday 3PM and Monday at 7 PM. Does anyone know who is playing steel for this tour group? I called the Opera house and they said it was a live band but she did not know who was with them. This will be one great weekend here, Herby Wallace and Mike Sigler is doing a show Saturday night in McConnelsville, Ohio about one hour away. I will make that show and Nelsonville is 12 miles north of Athens so will catch this show Sunday ,plenty to see this weekend right here at home. If anyone knows who is playing steel for the Patsy Cline show please post it or send me an email. It will be great to hear some real music for a change, but, that's life in a College town.

The name NELSONVILLE brings back lots of memories. That's where I started the PEDESONIC Guitar Co in 1972. At that time there were lots of musicians in the area. I helped on some of the "Parade of the Hills" shows. Wish I could be there and also like to have seen Herby.Tell all I said Hi. I understand the Census lists Nelsonville at 5001 population. Still a city by a small margin. Ed Naylor Steel Guitar Works.

I'm not sure who is playing steel in the tour musical but I am playing steel in the Always, Patsy Cline musical in Fort Wayne, Indiana and you are right, there is some good music as we do about 26 of Patsy Cline's songs. I have never done a gig where the time goes so fast and I know it is because the music is so enjoyable to play.
You will definately like the show as there is good music and a lot of humor.

What a bust, win some lose some and this one was a loser. I left at intermission, just couldn't take anymore. Keyboards and a drummer, this was a 4 person troupe that is making money off the name. I know there are some great Patsy Cline shows out there but this isn't one of them. If the lady ever heard Patsy Cline sing I would be surprised and if she ever would get to see Mandy Barnette she would go home and cut her throat. Hard on them, you bet, but she did know some of the words. It cost $10 to get in, I went to see Mike Sigler and Herby Wallace last night for half of that price and saw 1,000 times better show. I did have a bit of good luck at the show before I left, they had a drawing for two tickets for tomorrow nights show and "I DIDN'T WIN". If this troupe is coming to a theatre near you, take it from me, watch the weather channel and you will have a better time.

Walter,
Thanks for the kind words about the Ohio Valley Opry show last Saturday night. It was a great show and we were glad to have you there. Give us some kind of hint so that we know who NOT to go and see if they come our way.....

Walter-Do you really think,"this was a four person troupe making money off the name." ?? That's probably why they call it PATSY CLINE - ALWAYS. Well, Duuuhhh!
If anyone does it....well, never mind. Always good to hear real brutal criticism.

Walter.....

I assumne that you have seen Mandy Barnette in her show. I went to see it twice when it played at the Ryman here in Nashville. The lady was uncanningly close to Pasty. I think others have tried to follow in Mandy's footsteps and somehow hasen't quite made it yet. After one has saw Ms.Mandy do the show,we judge the others by it.

The only other act I have heard(not seen) that comes close to doing a Pasty Cline number is a group out in CA. David Wright is the Steel player for them. David (at one time) had a web-site where he posted a number of songs they did which included "I Fall To Pieces". Their version of that song should be the envie of most all steel players.
