My old Buddy , Bill Stafford sent me a couple of sets of his "Mr Smooth" Strings for me to put on my 1978 Telecaster, to check out and give him my opinion. These string are amazing, first of all, I had to back off the treble on my amp almost three numbers From 6 to a little above 3 on my peavey KBA 100 amp and then had to back of the Bass almost the same amount. These things really give a tone boost, I'm really impressed and usually I take a dim view of new things out on the market. First thing I noticed, When I took the plain, unwound strings out of the package is how shiny they are, unbelieveable. I usually change once a week just before the weekend, before my weekend gigs. Bill tells me that they will last longer too, So I will check out that part and report on it too, but Honestly I have never heard this Ol Tele sound this good. It has that distinctive Tele Twang on the Lead pickup and A sweet warm tone on the neck pickup that I have never heard before. I have had these Duncan Quarter Pounder pickups on this guitar for Several years now and While the pickups made a noticeable improvement over the previous set, These strings have made the most improvement in sound quality in 23 years of ownership and many many dollars in replacing parts to make a super Tele out of it. Actually the only thing original is the neck, everything else has been changed at least once and lots of parts two and three times, looking for that perfect sound and what it really took was the right set of strings. Amazing what we have to go thru sometimes to learn a lesson.

Bill took a big chance in asking my opinion, because he always said if you don't want to hear it like it is , don't ask Ole John, So he must have been pretty sure of what he was sending me.

WOW, thanks John. I could have never been able to afford accolades such as that. Especially from you. I am glad you like the strings. I have yet to work up the packaging for guitars (lead) but will do so on your say so. Thanks again. And yes, I was confidant. lol

An update on the "Mr Smooth" Strings that Bill sent me.

I have purposely Left the guitar out of the Case for a week now and while the strings are starting to loose some of their brightness, they still have a good tone and no intonation problems yet, this has been a week where I have done some serious woodsheding and have played for a couple of hours a day. I live in an area of high humidity and Looks like these strings are a winner in all respects. I won't ever use anything else, because the week old ones from Bill are better than one day old strings from the "Name" Manufacturers.
