FYI ... kind of pricey even without the dead PU .... still, it's a '54 and (I think) a long scale model - at least by my unscientific 10 sec view. I'm too lazy to count the frets.

Andy, yep it's a 26" scale - 4 markers above the 24th fret.
The busted tuner is a problem, even more so than the pickup.
If it was clean, pristine and fully functional, that price would be about right. But it's not, and unless you're a luthier with a cache of NOS Lollipops it's gonna get pricey to restore it.
There's a triple neck 26" Stringmaster on eBay right now. It's at $405 with 9 days to go.
The seller is claiming one went for $7000 last year. He must be referring to the Quad that a kid accidentally bid $7800 on - the actual price paid was a lot less. No Stringmaster has ever sold for anywhere near $7000 - yet.

Andy,
Rick is right about the difficulty with repairing the stripped tuner. I about fainted when I popped one on my 1953 T8.
There is hope, however. Terry Mueller, tkm1957@aol.com was able to repair mine for about a hundred bucks. These antique tuners require an expert as Rick mentioned, and Terry was the only person I could find after searching high and low.
Now that non-functioning pickup is another problem. I spent about $200 to snag a spare for mine on ebay. They are rare as hens teeth.

| There are many great modern non-pedal steels right now but the Stringmaster is a timeless classic. Will Leo Fender ever build another Stringmaster? No. I posted it because for the right person, the rewards of a fixer-upper Stringmaster 26" are well worth the hassles. I'm not that person but he or she is out there. |

| Those long scale Stringmasters are wonderful guitars. When I bought my 55' T-8 I was really worried about the tuners on it. I was very lucky and the tuners were in great shape and just needed a little adjustment and lube. I did have to have jason Lollar rewind a pickup for me though and now she sounds awesome. |
