I picked up a barely used nashville 112 last weekend while I was in Nashville and used it for 3 gigs while there (one was the Bluebird!). I loved it! I got this amp from a guy on ebay.
I thought these came with a speaker called a blue marvel- and I expected a blue cone or something. Anyway, my cone is black and the speaker is made by emminence.
Whatever it is, it sure sounds great and is a whole lot easier to carry around than my NV400. But I do wonder if there were different types of speakers available in these amps. _________________ "You call that thing a guitar?" |

That is the heart of my comment- how can I tell if I have a blue marvel speaker or not? _________________ "You call that thing a guitar?" |

As far as I know, the "Blue Marvel" is the only Peavey factory installed speaker. There were some that had Black Widows installed by one dealer, but mostly all the Black Widow did was add weight to the amp and I think that dealer quit offering that "aftermarket" option a long time ago. |

I bought both of mine new about a year apart and neither of them has any 'Blue Marvel' labeling on the speaker. Both are made by Eminence although the only indication of that is a very small label on the outer rim of the magnet. I was curious about this when I bought the first one. (wanted to be sure the amp I bought was really new and not one that had required a speaker replacement). The answers I got from Peavey were a little murky but an industry insider told me that all of the speakers that go the NV-112 are made by Eminence and some get a Blue Marvel label added by Peavey and some don't. It all seems to be a question of branding and labeling from what I gather. |

Here is the description from the Peavey site:

Blue Marvels (apparently made by Eminence) are Peavey's speakers for handling moderate volumes, and so are suited for the NV112 with 80 watts RMS. Black Widows are heavy duty speakers they use in their more powerful amps. A BW may be more efficient and add a little volume to a NV112, but would also add some weight to an amp that was designed to be lightweight. Generally, speakers will sound better for the power handling and volume levels they were designed for. Heavy duty speakers may not sound as good at lower volumes, but may sound good at high volumes, where a lighter duty speaker might be blown. But that is a general thing, and personal preference might prefer one or the other in a particular comparison. |

Ok, here's the "spill". When the 80 watt Nashville 112 amp was designed, we chose to "not" include a Peavey Black Widow speaker because the 12" BW can handle 700 watts of program power, which is obviously much more than the amp can produce. With this stated, it would not make economic sense to include a BW speaker. So, like Fender, Marshall and many other MI companies, we use outside vendors such as Eminence, etc., to provide specialty speakers for specialty amplifiers. The Blue Marvel is our name brand for our purchased speakers and is made by Eminence. Great speaker, I have got to say.
The reason that we do not apply the Blue Marvel sticker to the back of the magnet structure is because this is the only Blue Marvel speaker that has a "breather hole" in the center of the magnet and the sticker would cover that hole up. Instead of ordering a "special" sticker for this speaker(only), I chose to eliminate the sticker altogether because this would increase the price of this part.
I hope that this helps you understand our reasoning behind this.

As I've mentioned before, this speaker works absolute wonders for guitar too. Wide open and sweet. |

And I am loving my 112 more every day. Mike, thanks for convey to you what sound I was looking for. Your advice to put the amp on the floor and tilt it back a bit, was the best thing you could have told me. It is now starting to sound the way I want it to. With a bit more tweaking I know I will get there. Thanks again for helping me out.

I'm very pleased with my 112. I also like the 15" BW I use in my Fender Steel King. |
