So Cal Western Swing Music Society

Post by cathi parson »

Thanks to Larry Petree, Michael Johnstone and J.W. Wakefield, as well as all other enthusiastic musicians who took part in our festivities on Feb. 18th. That steel trio on "Steel Guitar Rag" to name a few was out of this world. What a thrill it was for our new audience. Our next date is Sunday, April 8th @ Montana's in San Dimas. Bands to be announced. Suggestions welcome. Also, as previously announced in our newsletter, May 13th has been cancelled as our May date because of Mothers Day. We are currently considering other weekends in May. Will keep you posted. Had a great chat with Herb Remington and he sent his good wishes and support our way. All musicians are encouraged to become involved as performing members and Board positions are available. Our goal is to put on the best musical program possible. Also looking for a rythm section for a house "Jam" band. If interested, contact Tommy Thomsen @ pueblotom@aol.com. Thanks again!! See ya'll in a couple of months.

Hey, Cathi-
By all accounts your first dance/jam was a runaway success!! Congrats!! Folks have emailed that both of your guest bands, the Lucky Stars and Buck Wayne and the BuckShots, and the open jam gave the crowd the Western Swing music they came to hear. Dayna Wills was a big hit, too! You've given Western Swing a format and venue in the L.A. area. Now you just need the local bands to come out and do it with ya! You go, Girl!

Thanks Barbara. Yes, The BuckShots and the Lucky Stars certainly satisfied the veterans and made converts of the newcomers. And Dayna Wills gave us her usual topnotch performance and drew a good number of her fans as well. The spirit of Western Swing has hit L.A.!! Let's keep it here!!
