Wayne is on Wilkes Ave now - I don;t have his new address handy, but his son took over the old homestead so mail still gets to him.

My Uncle used to live accross the road from him. I never knew of Wayne until I went to buy a steel from him ... turns out both sides of ancestors knew the Links (expecially Conner) quite well.

Don
I'll be there along with all my relatives I can fit on my buggie.
I'm busy polishing the picks now.
Hey gang. This is a 5 hour show. None stop. Costs only $15 per person. You get to hear some of the finest musicians in the country and get a lunch to boot.
My sister came with us last year. The Sat. evening show started at 7 sharp, and at 7:30 my sister was ready to leave. Wayne asked her where she was going, the night was just starting. She said "Home". Wayne asked her why. She said she had already got her $15 worth. Now that says something.
We got to keep this thing alive, so spread the word.

George
Maybe I'll get to meet you this year. I must have walked past you a few times, or even rubbed elbows.
I'm taking my "Beaver Log Steel" this year.

That is correct, George.
I read a post where the formites were mentioning the high cost of selected woods for the building of a steel. Just to be different, I mentioned to my cousin that I would like to build a steel out of a log. 4 days later he brought me this ugly log. He found it along the river bank while fishing. It's a piece of driftwood. It was app. 5" diam, pointed at each end, which had been chewed to length by a busy beaver. The teeth marks are clearly visible. I routed the top flat, made a bridge and a nut and fabricated a keyless tuner because the log was not long enough to use regular tuning keys. With the keyless tuner, I managed to get a 23" scale. I installed 10 strings to keep the string spacing the same as my pedal steel and installed a GeogL pickup.
I stained the log an ugly ebony black color because we wanted the project to look ugly as sin.
My cousin made a 4 legged stand from driftwood which looks like a "senior's walker".
All in all, the Beaver Log is one of the best sounding and sustaining steel I have played, and I have played 3. Ha!
If I knew how to post pics, I would show it here.
News travels, and people come over just to see the Beaver Log guitar. Of course I have to demo it.
It's hard getting back to my playing roots when I have become accustomed to the pedals, but it's coming along. Back to the Byrd sound.

I forgot. The cost of the project was 1 pickup, a set of strings, and a pack of minnows. Everything else is recylced, even the builders.

It'll worth the trip just to see that. Are you using a maple bar? Just curious ;-)

I've got some pics of that thing Sir George. Joe has a hell of an imagination. It's really something. I expect to see you guys in April. Don hasn't told me if Tex Emery is going to be there yet. I think they've doing a little practicing so we might get treated to some of their twin stuff. Rusty Walker's name came up the other day. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I haven't seen him in years. .. Billy

Barring unforseeen circumstances, Tex will be there. He and I haven't gotten together since before Christmas but will start again next week.

Sir Geo, as you may know I met Dean Neeley in summer of 1999 when I went on a business trip to Charleston, SC. I believe you and he met in St. Louis a few years ago. I've been encouraging Dean to consider coming to Wpg this year and he's expressed some interest. Maybe you could put in a word with him. He's a great guy and a pretty decent player.

Don.. You did a rerrific job on that web site as I new you would. Wayne and Joan are elated. I just discovered that Halderman wont be able to make it due to another commitment.. Big bucks. Harvey Henry will take his seat this year and Bob Maginet will also be there to spell him. Bob is an excellent player, I've worked with him before. I really hoped Halderman to be there because he was supposed to play steel as well. He's a 14 string wizard. Wayne also mentioned that they were trying to contact Rusty Walker, another of my favorites. I'm looking forward to seeing you too Joe as well as "Canada's Mr Carter" Al Brisco. My old team buddy, Jan Schmal dumped his can over a mountain cliff in BC. He seems OK but the car didn't make it. I expect he will be there as well. It looks like this could be a good year for Linkon.

Hey Billy, I think you mean Ron Haldorsen, don't you?
Too bad he can't be there. What a great musician! Oh, well, you'll be there! Image
