Question on Dallas Steel Jamboree(March)
I'm planning on attending the Dallas steel Jamboree in March for first time. Can anyone recommend airline from San Jose area and where to stay and how to get around if you dont have a car. Bringing my better half with me (thats my wife not my steel). Can you tell me the scoop got for a first time attendee.

The Jamboree is held at the Harvey Hotel DFW, which is next to the airport, about 5 mins. away. The dates this year are March 8-11. The show has workshops, distributors of steel products, more concerts than you could possibly handle, schmoozing, fun, etc.
Go to the TSGA Jamboree webpage for information, phone numbers, etc.

Hope you can make it!
A lot of additional useful info is here on our site (including a printable map, directions, contact info for the show host and hotel, and so on):

If the Harvey DFW Hotel is full, ask them for names of nearby motels/hotels (there are several in the immediate area, within walking distance). The staff at the Harvy DFW Hotel is known for being very helpful and gracious.
The Harvey DFW has a shuttle from the DFW International Airport (I believe it is free; you can confirm this if you'd like with the staff). In any event, the Harvey DFW is only about 5-10 minutes' ride from DFW Airport.
We look forward to see all of you who can make it!

I went to the Dallas show last year for the first time. My $0.02 worth......
1) It is smaller than St. Louis but the same players seem to make it. This may actually make it easier to talk to other players, ask questions, hang out and learn. There are fewer manufacturers, but once again the major ones did show up last year.
2) There is a shuttle from the airport but I don't remember if it's free.
3) There are a couple of restaurants and a bar in the hotel, and a Denny's across the street. Other than that there is nothing else to do in the immediate area unless you have a car and can drive somewhere. This, too, could be an advantage. If you just want to steel, eat and relax for a weekend with no other distractions then you've got your wish.
4) There are a couple of other hotels right next to the Harvey, and I heard that they are a little cheaper. Unfortunately, I don't know their names or if they have a shuttle. Staying at the Harvey is more convenient, especially if a sudden downpour comes in right about the time you're ready to leave. (I was across the street at Denny's last year eating and one rolled up right about the time I finished.)
5) Jeff Newman does a seminar. If you've never been to one I'd go. If you have been to one I'd still probably go. I would assume that it's about the same cost as any of his others. I e-mailed him a couple of weeks ago and got the following response:
"Yep, we're doing the seminar on the Thursday before it starts. We ought to get going around 10:00 in the morning. It will be a class on chords, substitute chords, and sevenths. I will take several very chordy songs and simplify them till you could play them with your eyes closed. It will be fun. Yo won't need a guitar, just show up and take notes."
It sounds good. If anyone has any further info as to the exact start time or cost please pass it on.
6) I'm planning on going again. My flight back to LA was overbooked last year so I got a $500 voucher from American Airlines that I need to use up.

TSGA Jamboree!!! This will be my first Steel show. Heck I've only been playing steel for a few months and I'm hooked as I can be, on the whole thing. All the fine folks and great pickers on the forum and beyond. I'm in the process of getting my travel plans cemented for the Dallas show. I'll walk if I have to! No, not realy.... I'd fly but my arms would get tired. JUST Kidding! I'll see ya'll in Dallas!!!!
Depending on what parts of the Dallas - Ft Worth area you are wanting to check out, I would think that getting areound without a car would be pretty hard to do. Now, getting to and from the airport will not be too bad since it is really close to the Harvey. By the way, my band (featuring Aaron Wynne on his D-10 Carter)will be at Billy Bobs in Ft Worth that week March 7-10.
