The seller says it has been in his family for years. It's in Mint condition. The case looks to be later than 1950s, which makes me wonder if this lap steel was assembled from parts or if it was actually made by Bigsby?

Doug-This baby looks all straight to me-if it were made from a "cut up" multi neck it would likely not have the extra wood on the tail end for the tone/volume controls-I have seen pictures of several of this type-In fact Billy Robinson's was near identical to this one-Raised frets and position markers on the neck dates from 1954 or earlier-the three holes drilled into the headstock were for a tone changer (missing) that mounted over headstock and used a lever similiar to the Crocker motorcycle handlebar brake which connected to a T-shape metal piece with adjusting screws that when applied would push down on the strings behind the nut to change the tuning-The large hole in the bottom of the headstock would be where the early plunger type tone changers would pop up through if the neck was on a pedal steel-the holes drilled through the wood on the tail end to feed the strings through is typical Bigsby-the case is made with all the same correct hardware like I got when I bought all the Bigsby stuff from Ted McCarty-the case even has the correct blue color lining inside-it is not a case that was made later-it is just that clean! Somebody will be very happy with this one-I would like to own it myself! Very Happy With the vintage Bigsby market skyrocketing I will be very interested to see what this one goes for-being lap style it may bring in more bidders who would not be interested in a console model but rather want the vintage Bigsby sound in something more portable

I've only ever seen photos of one other S-8 Bigsby lap steel. I believe what Paul says is true. Someone's going to be very lucky (and probably have deep pockets).

Wow, that thing is clean. Judging my the light color of the maple, it has not been out of the case very much at all.

I wonder how it sounds? I wonder if the tone is anything like a Bigsby PSG?

I'm sure it sounds great and not that different from any other Bigsby steel. Of course there are other factors with the tone, but the secret is the PU, trust me!

About 4 times the price of a late 50's Deluxe 8! I was going to bid until it started going over 3k. Anybody know who the buyer is?

No, but he's from Los Angeles and he buys and sells a lot of music gear on eBay.
