Very nice Gospel Steel Player on You Tube

Post by Bill Simmons »

I stumbled upon this steel player on You Tube and thought he did a very nice job on a gospel song...does anyone know who this player is?? He's playing a Marlin and from what I can tell through the headphones, his tone was very nice...

Hi Bill,
I have heard you perform a the Saluda show a few times , I have heard you play against such greats as Jeff Newman, and the extra great Mr John Hughey and you held your own and showed that you were supposed to be there . I really appreiciate your music...
Bill, about the gentleman you saw playing the blue
Marlin is none other than Mr Tony Arrowood. He plays a lot of shows in N.C. He plays the John Hughey tuning. Joe Turner has played with him many times.
Glad I could share this information with you and hope it is of some help..........Monroe

Very Nice Gospel Steel Player on You Tube

Post by Keith Poteat »

Tony Arrowood is a friend of mine I've played with many times through the years. He's from the Kannapolis-Concord area of NC. One of those places where steels and steel players are scarce. He was about this good when I first met him 30-some years ago. With all his ability, he never ventured too far out. Mostly Churches and Gospel groups. That arm lever is something he has talked about building for years. He always said that right arm was "just setting there not doing anything."

I just talked with Tony Arrowood and found out that our friend, Bill Sutton has posted about 4 songs on You Tube. If you've ever been to the Steel Convention in Kannapolis, NC, you've seen this guy but you probably have never heard him play. This is another great player!(Bill, if you're seeing this, don't be mad at me. Somebody has to pull you out of the closet!) I'm not computer savey enough to just have you click on something, but you can pull it up by going on You Tube and typing in billsutton2

Tony has a great tone. The wrist
lever is very interesting too.
