A year or two ago someone posted a link to a company that made rackmounted "gear" for recording studios. Just fancy graphics and blinking lights. Hilarious stuff!

I can't remember what they were called. Does anyone remember that?

I bought one of these, but now I'm starting to think it may be a fake:

That's NOT fake,it's the most valued piece of equipment in modern studios today,It can even replace the suck button on an outdoor sound system, don;t you know.

Funklogic makes rack fillers that are fake with VU's, LED's and stuff. The Digilog Dynamicator is a good one, and they make the Algoryhthmic Prosecutor, but my fave is the Palindrometer - everything on the unit is a palindrome.
Very funny...good for lots of laughs.
Pics on their site.

I've got an old Signetic's IC Spec Sheet. It is for a "WOM" Write Only Memory It was, I was told, put into a Signetic's spec sheet manual as a joke.

Jack,
In the days of floppy disks we had a particular type that was quite unique, we called them WORN... write once, read never.

I think it was "funklogic". Thanks, Skip..... And everyone else! This is obviously an under-exploited market.

Of course, one of the most important things a studio can have is a "mistake trap".

Five years ago I introduced the "ToneClone", but it wasn't rack mount.

Joey, I heard this works by Buddy and Lloyd mini-robots, each of whom runs on his own turntable. Any truth here?

Thai amp builders like top put things like

3500 WATTS Karioke Power,
when it clearly is barely 100 w

And LCD displays that say
5,500 watts of MP3 Power in use,
with a nice needle meter,
that moves when no signal is being played back...

Bells and whistles and shiny stuff sell well here.
If it looks like a Desoto or Mercmontclair front-end
in a black light poster exhibit it will sell like hotcakes.

I like the Blame Shifter. In case of a mistake it immediately lowers the note by one octave and the bass player gets the blame.

The bassplayer was playing a perfectly logical note,
just not 1 or 5, so it is mistaken for jazz,
and he gets blamed automatically.
It's in the guitarists firmware! Wink
