I have the Johnson metal resonator and I want to replace the strings.
I tune to open D.
What gauge strings would you recommend?
I am new at this so any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Dave

I use medium-gage guitar strings (0.013" to 0.56") for open D tuning, sometimes substitute a 0.014" or 0.015" for the high D string, depending on the guitar. The heavier first string resists "bottoming out" under the pressure of the bottleneck, esp if the action is low.

Moved to Music from Steel Without Pedals. I'd use the same gauge recommended earlier, .013 to .056.
