Forum Will Be DOWN For A Few Days
At some point in the near future, the forum will be down while we switch servers. I've bought a new Dell server and a 768k/768k SDSL line has been installed in my house. Once I get it configured, I'll take down the Forum, transfer the files, and then notify the DNS gods that b0b.com has moved. When the new DNS info reaches your provider, you'll have access to the new system.
Thanks to everyone whose financial support made this move possible. I couldn't have done this on my own - the total cost of the transition is over $2500!
Hopefully this will solve the support problems that we've had dealing with Internet service providers. With the dedicated server under our immediate control, we'll be able to offer home page hosting and other services that we couldn't offer before.
I hope to get the new server configured this weekend. We have until December 15 to vacate Datapipe or be hit with another 3 month bill. So don't get upset when the Forum goes down for a few days. We'll be back, better than ever!

Very good. Putting it under your immediate control should make it much better.
The DSL line should work well. I'm also going DSL and got the DSL kit from Verizon two days ago. I haven't got an installation date from the DSL provider (TampaBayDSL) but it probably won't be too long.
I've been having a lot of problems with Earthlink's dialup lately too. During the prime time of the day I get a lot of disconnects and have to redial and reconnect. During the off peak times it's OK. Earthlink wasn't that way till the bought up Mindspring, and I also read that Earthlink was disconnecting customers in the prime of the day because of lack of bandwidth (they blame it on overuse but it's really not enough bandwidth and probably servers that can't handle the amount of traffic).

Hey b0b,
Great, sounds like you'll be a busy guy.... I'd be interested in what you plan on home page hosting.
Jack,
Interesting... I'm also on Earthlink, I was originally on Netcom, who was bought by Mindspring, and now Earthlink. I never had problems with Netcom or Mindspring, but now with Earthlink I occasionally get busy signals and have been dropped a few times.
Maybe they're just getting too big????
Cisco will reimburse me for the cost of broadband access at home, so I'm going with a Cable modem pretty soon. DSL is not yet available in the wilds of Bastrop. Heck, we just got our first overpass this year .

OH NO! Let me know a couple days ahead of time so I can go out in the middle of the forest and hibernate or something.

It's Linux, Dan. And I just got it connected - I'm using Netscape on it right now!
