Dayna,
Thanks very much for the information on Darla Daret.
I had wondered what happened to her.
Living on the East Coast, I've missed a lot of the fine details on the Western Swing players.
Purchased my first Bob Wills record in 1948.
Been a big fan ever since.

One neat thing Dale Evans did was write Aha! San Anton! Her recording of it was pretty swingin' She was quite a writer both books and songs. Al

I've received some email about my post above. Louise and Curt were members of the national barn dance radio show on WLS in Chicago. The announcer refered to her as the queen of western swing. The term western swing was used in IL IN MI OH as early as 1930. Others on the show were Gene Autry, Henry Burr, Pat Buttrum, Hoosier Hotshots, Lulu Belle and Scotty, and others. The westerners did not have drums but had a terrific dance beat guitar man and a great dog house bass. cc

to answer a few more emails; yes Louise and/or Curt wrote several hit songs the most prominent was "My Adobe Hacienda". During apprearances other than the radio show, Pat Buttram, who had a singing vouce almost as bad as mine, would sing My Acobe Hacienda and would introduce it as "My version of the song refers to the literal translation, My mud House. cc

I don't know for sure, but I was watching "Austin City Limits" a few years ago, and a VERY drunk George Jones introduced Hank Thompson as: "If Bob Wills was the "King Of Western Swing" - then this man surely must be the queen". By the way - I'm serious... Jimmie
