I may end up eventually going to roundwounds for tonal reasons, but I'm not really courting "bite" for now. I am most interested in the longevity of the strings as I have EQ that can make elephants tweet & chickadees rumble. Any experience with these?

Ernie Ball 2804 Group II
Fender 905M
GHS Brite Flats ML3075
D'Addario Half-Rounds ENR71SL

The bass has a 35" scale and active electronics. I would say "money is no object" but - alas - that would be untrue. If a $50 set lasts three times as long as a $25 set, fine, but I'm not easily flattered by boutiqueiness.

We've been using the GHS Brite Flats, light gauge, on my wife's Ibanez Blazer bass for at least 10 years. They are a smoother string but can still have some punch. GHS used to market these strings as "ground wounds" but changed the name about 10 years ago.

I have found Thomastik to be a really good sounding and durable flatwound for Bass. Carol Kaye introduced me to them (well, yea, she is an endorser). Did you know that she only plays flatwounds, and with a pick....all those tunes and tracks she recorded throughout the 60's and 80's were done that way. Myself, I am a finger style player.

I use them on my Fender Jazz fretless.

I like the half rounds; you can roll off highs to get the flatwound tone and still have the option of a near roundwound sound.
