What a great time we had at the annual Huey Buxton Birthday party in Starks, Louisiana. Lots of steel players on hand to help celebrate the occasion. Pee Wee Whitewing, Ora Oubre, A.C. Billeaud!! All that and three fiddles (Huey Buxton, Johnny Carpenter, and Ralph Richardson. Also had Joe Suchanek on fiddle setting in on several sets. A really good turnout with lots of good food especially the Gumbo.)>

Needed to mention the prettier side of the party. These girls are all part of the Buxton family and they know how to sing.

I haven't seen A.C.in at least 20 years. I'm guessing he still lives in the Sulphur area. I'm actually from Lake Charles but been living in Ft. Worth for the last 15 years. Thanks for the pics. Looks like yall were having a great time. I use to play at the Rodair Club in Port Acres if you know where that is, if its still standing after Rita.

Ricky, the Rodair used to be one of the great dance halls in the area. I think the building may still be there but haven't heard a lot about anything going on there. The place to go for good dancing now is Larry's French Market in Port Neches.

Doug,

Huey is an excellent fiddle player and a very nice guy! I have gotten to see him play with Brit Godwin and Bubba Moore in Beaumont. Man wish I could have been there for this! Looks like it was a great time!

I got to see A.C. Billeaud pick with Brit and Bubba at the Labor Day Music Fesitval in Beaumont! He did a FANTASTIC job on Together Again! Smile

Yea the good ole Rodair Club is long gone...went there only once! One time it was rank as #1 Roadhouse in Texas by a magazine, but cant remember which one. Hurricane Rita finally convinced someone to tear it down. Larrys French Market is a great place to see live music and eat some good cajun food!! We go there alot when we are back home (we are originally from Sabine Pass, TX). You can catch Danny Cormier there with Jackie Callier and the Cajun Cousins.

Take care Doug and we'll see ya down the road!

Brandon, you did miss a good time. Hope to see you at one of the SETX Steel Guitar Club meetings. I cannot attend this month due to a prior commitment but plan on catching the next one.

Jody, you got that right....wish you could have been there with us!!! We had some good musicians...Tim Broussard, Bubba Moore, Mike Quibodeaux, sharing bass duties and Charlie Moore or piano. Another fiddle player I failed to mention is "Cotton" Moore. Steve Buxton, Mr. Carpenter, and Scotty Liccotino on drums. Just a gooooood time.

Wanted to add that Huey Buxton and his nieces and sister that you saw in the photos above perform with the East Texas Jamboree in Broaddus Texas every Friday and Saturday. Charlie Moore is the keyboard guy on that show and Ron Ferrier plays steel there and is the VP of the operation. Pee Wee Whitewing has been working with Roy Rosetta on the Kirbyville Texas Country Music Show. Lots of things happening in this neck of the woods.

Charlie...that's what happens when you are multi-talented as you are. Thanks for working the keyboards, you sounded great and really added to the sound. I heard you warm up on the Mullen and from what I heard I know you can hang with the best.

I met Huey at the Texas Steel Guitar Jamboree in Dallas and played twin fiddles with him last year out in the lobby with Carco Clave on steel. Huey is a terrific fiddle player and a real friendly person. If you get a chance, tell him hello from me when you see him next and tell him I'll look for him in March up in Dallas.

Howard, I sent Huey a link to this thread and hopefully he will get to see these pictures and read your comments. Next time I see him I will let him know that you say hello. Best regards.
