Who has experience with this?
Can I use the PODxt into a PA for a Dobro (squareneck resonator guitar ) that has a pick up?
I figure that since there are many variables within the PODxt that is is very possible ..
I just want some opinions though
Thanks to you all in advance,
Tim

I can't say the POD XT makes a good Dobro Simulator. I have the Tommy Dodd Dobro program and it's pretty poor, compared to my Goodrich MatchBro (I can fool Bluegrass pickers with my MatchBro) |

I also have a POD XT with Tommy's presets, and I agree with jack that the Match-bro is better.
Tommy has some really nice sounds programmed, but the Dobro patch doesn't really work all that well.
Still, I'd bet that using the match-bro to get the Dobro sound together with the POD XT for amp and speaker sounds would yield some pretty good results. I haven't tried combining them yet.
I set the default on my POD to the Bassman amp module and the four 10 speaker cab simulation. That seems to work really well for steel. _________________ Please visit my web site and Soundcloud page and listen to the music posted there.

The question is "can I run a resonator guitar into the POD?".
I don't see why not. There are enough voicing options on the POD that I would think you could tweak it to as natural a sound as you could with any other outboard preamp. And with the POD's tweakability, I would think you've got more control than you'd get with an average preamp.
I've never used it this way but I just plugged an acoustic guitar with a piezo pickup into it, into an FSK and I was convinced that I could have dialed in a good sound. |

Sorry about that, I wasn't awake yet this morning when I answered.
But, I don't see why you couldn't run a Dobro through it. I have a separate program with only a slight amount of reverb (effect only, no preamp or speaker modeling) that I use with my MatchBro. It's available to download on my web site www.gulfcoaststeelguitar.com
Otherwise, there are several "clean" preamp/amp models that you can choose from and then set the EQ wherever you want. |

John,
I have experience with a PODxt.
My question is also.. would I need anything ELSE besides the PODxt with a Dobro pickup.
I have read quite a bit about the LR Baggs Para DI. I am thinking that I wouldnt need both if I was going to run to an amp and a PA.. since the PODxt had 1/4" outs and XLR outs as well.
Anymore feedback??
I have a buddy that uses one with a fiddle but cant get him now.. he is on the road.
Thanks!

Tim, my experience is that the POD is all you need. My rig is the steel to the volume pedal to the POD to a power amp. Period.
I'm toying with the idea of getting a Franklin Stereo volume pedal and running the pod between the steel and the volume pedal. I need to investigate this further before I decide whether or not this is a good idea. _________________ Please visit my web site and Soundcloud page and listen to the music posted there.

Mike, Like you, I have used a POD with a Pedal Steel for years..love the ease and variability they offer!!
I am interested in knowing how a DOBRO PICKUP will directly interface with a POD.
I know that sometimes a LR Baggs Para DI is used as an interface...
I want to use a PODxt and was checking on feedback from any members with experience using a Dobro with a PODxt.
Thanks!

Tim,
I have a "Chinese" resonator with a built in pickup and always use it with my PODxt. I like the Fender amplifier settings. The only thing I have to be careful is to watch the volume level. If I don't lower it significantly from my normal Pedal Steel settings, the feedback can be painful.

Going to run a LR Baggs Para DI in to a PODxt with a Reso (Dobro)
May also try the PODxt in the effects loop of the Baggs Para DI

I have a Fishman under-bridge pick-up and have used the Pod with it for a couple of years. But as much as I am a Pod fan, I was never completely satisfied with it. Then I picked up an ART tube preamp, which is a DI with a 12ax7 tube, for 29 bucks and it sounds great.
I'm anxious to try it with the X3 Pod though. It has an XLR input and a bank of mic programs for guitar. I'm thinking the combination of mic through the Pod and Fishman through the preamp might take the sound over the top. The only thing I miss with the tube preamp is a little reverb, which I could have with if I added the X3 and a mic to it. |

Tim,
I'm wondering what your experience ended up being with the Pod xt plus the Baggs. I traded my Baggs for a Pod 2, hoping to kill a bush full of birds with one stone; have since moved up to a Pod xt. I gigged with the Pod 2 and found it a little dicey, especially with dobro. I haven't gigged yet with the xt, but I'm hoping it will be all I need. That said I'd consider getting another Baggs if you (or anyone else) has found that in combination with the xt it's a big improvement for the dobro.
Thanks,

I use POD XT effects when I switch to my MatchBro, in my normal "live" rig:
Piezoacoustic 2 amp model
no cabinet
dial up some % of room to taste
Delay setting at around 25 to 40ms, as a "doubler"
Room Reverb
In my opinion, it helps create a difference between the Dobro tone, and steel tone. I haven't run my actual dobro into it, but I would approach things in a similar way.
Good luck,
