Topic: Can't Listen To Music Samples On The Forum |

| Examples: "Crazy Arms E9/C6 Greg Cutshaw" and "Send Your Song To Be Heard Around The World - Charles Tilley". I click on provided link in order to hear the audio. Status bar seems to indicate that something is loading. After a few seconds the page "IE Cannot Display The Web Page" appears. Happens every time without fail. I have Windows Vista Home Premium and (I believe) IE7. What am I missing? |

You forgot to include the URLs of the problem links, or web page containing them. With links to them we can check out the codes on the web page and be in a better position to help you.
This is a frequent issue on the Computers Forum. Don't assume that just because I or other contributers are members of the SGF, that we know about all the other pages and sections of the SGF. This is especially true regarding links to music or image files, or member websites. A link to the URL will save a lot of time spent asking for it later and waiting for two way replies.

| No URL to be considered. Cutshaw's post provides "here" or "click here". Twilley's site has the names of the players upon which one should click to here the music. Only way that I can hear them is to "right click, save as, save and open". It works but it seems to be the long way around. If these are MP3's do I need additional software in order to simply click and play?[/b] |

And I am supposed to magically know what their website URLs are? I have absolutely no idea about what "Cutshaw's post" says, or what links he provides, or where his information is posted on the SGF. I don't know what his domain name or Url is. I also don't know what Twilley's domain or website URL is. I look after this section of the SGF among a hundred other things that I am trying to do, when I am able to get online. I happen to be on the road, almost a thousand miles from my mailing address.
Like I said before, please post the URLs to any websites with which you are experiencing difficulties. Do not assume that anybody in this forum knows about anything going on in a different section of the SGF. If they do, that's great. But don't assume that it is so.

This problem is a configuration issue. You have not configured your media player to auto play .mp3 files from web page links. Some other applicaqtion may have taken over that connection, then got uninstalled. That leaves the browser not knowing which program should "open" .mp3 file types. When that happens you get the "save as or open with" dialog box. You should be able to fix that if you go to your browser's options, find where Mime-types are enumerated, then associate .mp3 files with Windows Media Player, or the player of your choice.

| Most of the links are MP3 files. If you have Windows XP or Vista and Windows Media Player 11, you should have no problems with them. |

If Windows Media Player has lost it's association to play .mp3's on a web page, you can simply reset file associations to their default settings. With Media Player open, right-click on the Titlebar, then from the options list select > Tools > Options. From the Options windows click on File Types. From the File Types Windows Select All, Apply, then click OK, until all options are closed. Restart IE and try clicking on a media file link in one of those posts and see if it plays.
Friggin laptop with tiny keys! I have to retype everything before I get rid of wrong key entries.
