Scotty did not produce the first show. He did develop the modern steel guitar show we all know and he did produce the first convention.

The first of these shows started in Texas as product demonstrations produced by MSA (pre-Micro) with other builders also participating. After the second show, the people who produced these shows decided it was too time consuming to continue. Scotty offered to take it over and they said ok. Scotty moved it to St. Louis and the rest is history. The Scotty's first show featured the MSA crew, Tom Morrell, and Maurice Anderson, with Bud Carter demonstrating MSA's at a "booth" or MSA area.

John,Very valid points. I posted my thoughts gathered thru the years I have had steelers in my bands and many whom I have been a guest with in their bands. They would mention their influences and the players who caught their interest, and thus gave them the desire to play the instrument... We all know the names of their influences ,Most are on the wall...In talking to many players when I attended St.Louis shows, Many showed real interest in seeing their favorite player inducted...I have favorites and friends that I would like to attend and see recieving a plaque...I will be there when they do...

I guess to appreciate the early guitars, Bigsby, Multi-Kord, Wright and so on , you had to have been there. I remember the first Wright I heard, I was playing a Multi-Kord and couldn't wait to get my hands on that guitar.I was playing a Multi-Kord in 59 when Lloyd Green invited me to play his Rick that Shot had modified with two pedals. It was a very smooth playing horn.My first volume pedal was made out of plywood and had a homemade rack and pinion gear to turn the pot.I also made a small wooden cube about 4 inches square and put a little horn speaker in it. I ran a plastic tube out of the front to my mouth and did the Pete Drake thing. So by todays standards a lot of this seems crude but it all had a place in the evolution of our instrrument.
There are too many great pickers and builders and inovators out there to try and pick a hall of famer. They all deserve recognition.
Thats my two cents.....

And that aspect is often overlooked too.
