It's just a little more than two years since the
Steel Guitar world lost Jerry Byrd. (April 11th.,2005)
He influenced so many players,, myself included
for sure. I remember reading an article way back
where he asked Buddy Emmons " What do you need pedals
for anyway ". Jerry never played pedals but he did emulate them on some of his recordings using
a modified E9th tuning.
I have written this little tune in his memory
with a pedal steel feel and called it "A Byrd Has Flown". It may add a little credence to Jerry's
statement above?
My tuning here is E Nine Six which is the same
as was used on "Message from Chet" and "Fretin' Chetin". (previous posts) It is very versatile
and it is very strumable to boot.

I like it because it reminds me of the days there was a lot of open space in the tall grass prairie areas of the American landscape. There is wildlife, horses, and campfires in those notes in my mind. |

Note: The first three measures of the tab ahould be
at Fret 15 and not Fret 3. An octave higher in
other words. It was a last minute change of mind
at time of recording. |
