Bethlehem Steel Guitar Jam 2000
The Bethlehem Steel Guitar Spring Jam 2000
is in the works!
Bill and Becky are "up to" doing it again.
This time we'll get a room with some food and stuff. We will all have to chip in a few bucks each. But, it should be well worth it.
It will be done, again, without a "live band".
But, this time we are hoping to get a "play list" together. . . OVER THE FORUM.
Everyone coming, who has some tapes, CD's or programs to bring, could post their list on this thread.
All those who want to play could vote by posting a reply on this thread and "sign up" for their favorite tunes by choosing from a master list before the jam.
There will also be an opportunity for anyone to "solo perform" a few tunes for those who want to "brave it".
And, once again, we'll jam until "there is no one left standing".
The date has not been set yet...
"Stay tuned" to this thread for further developments.
[This message was edited by db on 15 January 2000 at 08:49 PM.]

Dan, please note that May 14 is Mothers' Day, so we may need a room large enough for us all to bring our moms along. I'm sure there's nothing they'd enjoy more than accompanying us to a steel guitar jam.
p.s. I presume the comment about space limitations means that a location has been chosen? Please tell us where!
[This message was edited by Jim Cohen on 26 January 2000 at 09:21 PM.]

It is narrowed down to April 30th or May 7th.
But the site is still not been found yet.
I would be helpfull to know how many players are interested in coming so that we can find the right sized place to book for the Jam.
Please post a reply and/or e-mail Becky or myself if you are intested in coming.
Thanks,
db

Well, so far I have gotten about three or four
players, who say they might be able to come.
So far, no one has posted any tunes !
(i.e. no program started yet).
But, I do have confirmations for more than a dozen spectators!
I have found a room 35x60 for Sunday the 7th
of May for 1 to 6pm, that is available FREE with
a $12 fee for a cold luncheon buffet, (Based on
a yet unspecified minimum party size). There is still more follow-up work to do and it is not yet booked because there are still not indicators that there really is enough interest.
If we want it to happen we will have to book the room ASAP!
[This message was edited by db on 12 February 2000 at 08:10 PM.]

OK… the room is booked! We have the spacious LINCOLN HOTEL (INN) banquet room in the suburban Bethlehem village of Freemansburg.
There will be a "Champagne Brunch" served
at 11 o'clock (maybe sooner) and available during the afternoon (at least till 2:00pm).
And we will jam from 12:30 till around 3:30
( there is another event at 6:00 )
Reservation RSVP's should be in by April 30th.
[$12 (or less) per person paid at the door] .
There are 18 players and 20 spectators signed up so far. With the number of players that we expect this year, we will need to get the "program" started ASAP. Each tune will only have time enough for an average of 4 players each.
We will need to have the play list for tune "sign-up" to make it work. The sooner we can get the tunes posted, the easier it will be to finalize the program material and log all the player requests.
RSVP confirmations and detailed directions and/or maps will be sent out by e-mail by the end of April.
[This message was edited by db on 17 April 2000 at 06:49 PM.]

I'd like to be there, barring any unseen dificulties or change in my Dad's condition.
I have a CD of backup tracks that I produced in my studio. It has extremely long versions of six tunes. It'd be perfect for a jam such as this. I'll dig out the song list with keys for the CD and post it shortly.
Regards,
Harry Hess
