Jerry Byrd on old Cowboy Copas record of "Breeze "

I remember an old King record of Cowboy Copas singing the song "Breeze" back in late 40s, early 50s with Jerry Byrd doing steel background. I've located the lyrics I remember as recorded by Jim Reeves and I think Copas did a cover. Any old Copas fan have a copy or any info on this record ?? I loved that song and would pay for a tape copy !! A long shot search request !! Eddie "C"

A search of the WEB finally located Copas recording of "Breeze" on C.D. "Tennessee Waltz" !!! I am purchasing tonite.

Eddie.........I think I should sample that tune "Breeze" before you sit down to listen to it. After all, it jes' might prove to be too much for an old geezer, don'cha think?

Main thing I believe is that Cowboy Copas recorded breeze in the late 1940s and Jim Reeves recorded the song in the mid to late 1950s. Used to hear Copas sing it on his 15 minute WSM show Great performer.

Yup, heard that song "Breeze" I don't have it would have liked to. Can anyone tell me who played steel on Copas's recording on King Records. Signed Sealed and Delivered? I know it wasn't Jerry Byrd.

I just recd. the Copas C.D. "Tennessee Waltz" with 26 old 1945 thru 1951 songs, "Breeze" >>= steel is not the "Byrd" !!! May be Bobby Foster ?? who used to play on the "Opry" with Copas . Also "Signed, sealed & delivered" steel player is unknown to me ???, but is not the "Byrd" either. Very unusual sound !! Was a good record though , lots of old songs with various old steel players , all non-pedal and old 40s sounds !! Very enjoyable and I always enjoyed Cowboy Copas singing !! I agree with Eddie, Bobby Foster is my though. He backed up Cowboy Copas alot on the Opry and other shows. Another favorite of mine is I'm Waltzing with Tears in my eyes, great steel guitar solo.(I believe that's the title) Al

My last reply the word was thought. Signed sealed and delivered was a hit for Copas twice 1/3/48 number 2 and 9/11/61 number 10. First big hit was Filipino Baby 8/31/46 number 4 Al

Yes , Cowboy Copas did a great job on "Waltzing with tears etc" with Jerry Byrd doing the steel work !! "Filipino Baby" was great , I remember Copas doing that on the "Opry" !! I have the old 78s of those . I thought Copas was one of the best singers on the Opry !! I recall him saying "play it Bobby" when Bobby Foster came in with the steel back in 47 , 48 & 49 . "Signed , Sealed & Del." was another good one . Remember "Tennessee Moon" and "Just an old farm for sale" ?? Was a great time for old non-pedal steel !!! Eddie "C" ( the old geezer )

Eddie, I don't think RON is in 'our' age bracket.........but it can be said he likes our kind o' music therefore I think it's safe to say that RON just likes olden days steel guitar music. Perhaps he jes' thinks olde........ He certainly knows the difference between great music and that other stuff.

And thanks to you Ron.......for mentioning the JBFC in your previous post. I'm still having difficulty in getting the site up and running with new songs. We've had a major disaster at the site but I'm trying with limited skills.

I heard a Cowboy Copas recording, "The Party's Over".

It must be Jerry Byrd on the recording __ very dynamic playing.

Yes, it sure sounds like Jerry "B" !! Byrd did quite a few recordings with Copas. His sound was much more "treble" on this cut. I recall Jerry saying he was told to play sharper to keep up with the treble sounding Fender steels but he didn't like it !! He preferred a more mellow sound to the hard , sharp treble of the Fenders . I personally liked the mellow , rich Rick. tone better !! I M H O !!. Eddie "C" ( the old geezer )
