Hi Eddie,

Me and Bobby Ingano play this song often. Bobby recorded this song on his first solo album call "Steel Reflections". I think there's a video of him on the HSGA website doing this song at one of the conventions. Smile

I play that tune all the time! I learned it from the Bob Brozman traditional Hawaiian guitar DVD. It's not actually 'taught' on the disc but it is played and I managed to pick it out (key of F). Also played in the key of "G" on the Bob Brozman Ledward Kaapana concert DVD. It's a beautiful tune and uses a lot of partial harmonics.

There's an English version called Island Serenade, which seems to be the same tune. It's written in E flat. I have the sheet music of that version.
I usually play it in E flat but it's easy enough to play in any key.

"Ua Like No A Like" is also known as "I'll Be Thinking of You" (Alice Everett/Al Hoffman, Dick Manning) and can be heard on the CD "UKULELE LADY" featuring Keith and Carmen Haugen, along with other well known artists including George Kuo, Randy Oness, Helene Woodward, Danny Kaleikini and others. By co-incidence, 'yours truly' can also be heard playing steel on that CD which is still available....just email: hakumele@aol.com Smile

On the very rare occasion that I get a Hawaiian gig I always play the version I picked up from Bob Brozman on a tricone.
The first recording of this song that I know of that sounds much like his version is the Kalama's Quartet 78 from sometime between 1927-32. I have heard several earlier 78's that have the same title and share some melodic material, but sound very different, almost another tune, but not quite!

I was taking lessons at Harlin Bros. Hawaiian guitar studios In Indianapolis in the late 40's. I was learning on a 6 string 4 pedal Multi-Kord Hawaiian steel guitar.

Ua-Like-No-A like was one of the lessons given to us in tablature form with the Multi-Kord pedal steel guitar arrangement.

I'm pretty sure I still have it in my files. Now I need to dig it out and give it a try. Cool
