Oklahoma: COPSGC--meeting we got RICH!!!!

I want to thank all those who came to Tuttle, America to make our August meeting RICH in great music, great fellowship, and the ladies who prepared GREAT FOOD and GOODIES!!

Especially to have Gene Jones and Jim Harper attend to "show us how it's done"!! The spirit you guys show, and especially Jim H. BEING THERE so soon after surgery!! I swear, they can whittle on ole' Jim, but that don't slow up his pickin' none!!

Thanx to Byron Mckedy for his efforts to the beginnings of a MIGHTY FINE house band.

Lorren White and Gerald Cook for setting up and organising. The sound level was pure perfect!! And Ken Hoyt for jumping in there and helping where help was needed!

Ernie Dunlop for his great guitar chops, Bob Ferguson playing some great and solid bass. There was a fine gentleman who played some mighty fine fiddle, and another gentleman that played a Gretch guitar and sang some great songs, somebody help me with their names, but they sure sounded great!!

There are a few folks who came and played, or came and listened, that I didn't get to meet, and I apologise for that. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Lorren and Gerald and Byron, please fill in the blanks for me!!(in other words, save me!!

) I don't mean to forget anyones mention, so please forgive me!!

Joe Gilbert, it was fun to sit and visit with you again!!

Again, thanx everyone for coming and see ya'll next month, same time same place. Remember, it's the last Saturday of each month!!

We in the Houston/Katy area had a visit from Jim Harper at our Southeast Texas Steel Guitar Club and he was a joy to have. Great player and a true gentleman. Glad to hear Jim did well following his surgery.

We'd love to have Jim back anytime. I'm a transplanted Okie myself and I hope you guys have a great meeting. I'd love to be there.

Thank you Mr. Saunder,s for your word,s to us we appreciate you;ll down there in Tx. very very much. I try to copy some of you;ll meeting up here for James and Gerald. They did a great job yesterday and i enjoyed meeting every one and some new folk,s i had never meet. Bill Dewbre was the guitar player that came with me and he play,s in our band down here at Duncan. Gearld Cook was the first arrival. I arrived close to 11:00AM and I ask Gearld what he thought we could expect in attendance. He looked at me and said when you got here we just doulbled that quick. That is the way it happened up until the playing started we had a house full. Well James here we go to bale you out as you requested. The mystery fiddle player was none other than Bobby McCall from Oklahoma City who advertises himself as the "country fiddle". Yes, Bobby added so much to our band and we want him to feel free to return in fact we insist. In fact we can thank Bob Ferguson, our newest paid member for recruiting Bobby. James, I agree that Gene Jones and Jim Harper are two classy players. It just adds so much when those two are on board. I was really shocked when I first saw Jim Harper as I had no knowledge of the surgery he had been through. We just hope it was good therapy for him as he showed us that serious surgery isn't going to slow him down when he touches the strings. Jim it will always be my pleasure to assisst you with your equipment in fact it was a honor just to get to carry that Emmons push/pull that is your pride and joy. Please keep us informed of your progress in between now and Sept. when we want to see you again. When a student drives all the way from Lawton it speaks well for Jim. Richard Brown we want you to show with your steel the next meeting. I can no longer use "no show Joe"he made me eat those words, appreciate your support one of two who have paid dues ahead of time. As the new treasurer I can say this is well needed and we appreciate that kind of dedication.
Yes I agree Ernie Dunlop did it again with his professional style playing with the band. Ernie could play with any band and obviously has throught the years. We are honored to have you! I will go out on the limb, I had better be careful thats where James had problems, that Byron will have the house band full by our Sept. meeting. Great job Byron. Thanks to Sherry for putting the great meal together. Thanks to all that made this meeting exciting not to mention the good fellowship.

Beautiful. I don't use this term unless really impressed. The harmony of Gerald and his Mom was just Beautiful. Wow I want to hear more. It was good to see all and hear some good music. So many Steels and so little time.

Sorry guys for not chiming in earlier. I usually wait until I get to the fire station to look at the forum 'cuz it's so much faster than home. Thanks Joe for those kind words about my mom (Mary). We've been singing since what seems like forever together. I can't top what has already been said but I want everyone to know that I absolutely had a blast Saturday. It seemed like everyone was having such a good time both playing as well as visiting. First and formost, I want to thank the ladies, Sherry, Mary & Ellen for putting together such good food for the meeting. I enjoyed trying to sing some oldies as well as listening to "Merte" Dewbre bellow out some great tunes. Mr. Harper & Mr. Jones, you have no idea what a treat it is to have you guys grace our presence and to hear you play. I want to thank Ellen for her dessert (yummie) and her husband Ed playing on his GFI. Byron, I still love to hear you play that old honky tonk steel. Hey Lorren cheated on remembering those names.......he has the sign-in sheet

Richard, good to see you again but bring that steel next time. Then there's old "Hop-A-Long" Morehead that came strollin' in late. James I thought you played great on Ed's GFI with only one leg

Hey Joe, bring your dobro next time around!! Gerald, I had a blast playing Eddies GFI Ultra---what a sweet guitar through the N.112/Hilton pedal!! Thanx Eddie for letting me try your rig. As Gerald mentioned, I have a knee injury, so I didn't make the full meeting and didn't bring my toys. I only played 2 songs before people started to leave!!

What Gerald REALLY means by my playing the GFI is that he didn't notice any difference in my playing now with a bum knee as previously BEFORE my injury!! AH--HA!!

If we can keep growing this fast it will not be long
before we will have to grow to a larger building. Everyone was inspired and there was no time waisted Jam-Jam-Jam. Good tunes, and great friends, wonderful food. If you have this already stay where you are. If not, come visit us at Tuttle. Great job everyone.

I saw a guy named Chuck today at the Okla Arts Festival. He was playing an MSA Classic. He was doin some mighty fine pickin. Wanted to meet him, but he was busy setting up and such. He lives close to Tuttle as I understand it.

Guy,s Jagwire String,s sent me a sent of E9th Hybrid for my Emmon,s P-P and played them last night and they did great. Never lost their tuning and i enjoyed the new Hybrid,s last night.If any one want,s to talk with me about them so far they are great==Jim Harper

I want to join Gerald and George in welcoming Wayne Baker to Tuttle. Wayne we hope you will mark your calendar so you will not miss our meeting in Sept. After one time we hope you will want to join our Club.
We also will be looking for Larry Wayne Jaques who is moving to Edmond area from Marrietta, Ga. We love these transfers don"t we. What a way to grow.
Our membership is growing as we are in the process of receiving as a new member John buffington, President of Oklahoma Steel Guitar Assoc. This is an addition to our membership we should all be very proud.I look forward to the day when he might find the time to join us.
These are recent happenings that just shows that our club is on the rise. As George said just stay tuned and eyes open for new and better things on the horizon. Lorren
