Are there any guidelines for the mid shift settings on the Peavey NV amps? For example, cutting around 500 will produce such and such a tonal quality..., or, boosting around 1k will affect the tone in such and such a way etc.
I know, I know, its all what you like to hear, but I like those settings guidelines to help me zero in on certain tonal qualities. I'm trying to fatten up the high end a bit and am having a little trouble with pure experimentation. Its kind of like going to the eye doctor and he asks as he shows you different lenses, "is this better, or is this better" about 300 times until you don't know whether you're coming or going.
Any rough guides would be helpfulMMThanks, _________________ Disclaimer! I make no warranty on the manure I've been spreadin' around here. |

My Mids are off,-15, and the Shift 600-800. I keep my mids off but play a little with the shift a little bit. Just depends on how my ears a hearing on any given day. Hope this helps a little. The shift is pretty touchy, so a little goes a long way. _________________ Keep pickin', Larry |

Depending on the steel, of course, many set the Shift at about 800 or so, then turn the mid control down to get rid of the midrange honk and obtain a smoother , clearer, sound. Not every guitar needs the full -15 cut, though.
But, you are referring to the highs. You might try dropping the Presence and/or Treble down a bit. Lowering the Mid can sound like the highs are accentuated with some guitars. I run both at about 10 o'clock, and the Mid at around 10, also (Shift at 800). Then I boost, or cut, the Bass to suit the room. I like a smooth punchy midrange, but not too cutting on the high end...if you know what I mean. _________________ Best regards,

These are the settings I'm using:
Low ±0dB (flat on the floor)
Low +12dB (Tilt or on stand)
Mid –6dB
Shift 650Hz. (about / = 12:30±)
High +6dB
Pres. +6dB
Rev. 4
Master always above Pre~Gain and always on 10, out on the job. _________________ <marquee> Go~Daddy~Go, (No), Go, It's your Break Time</marquee> L8R, jb

I think any of these settings are a reasonable starting point, but I have to generally tweak them depending on the guitar, room acoustics, and probably some things that I don't even know. I think the ears should be the final judge, but sometimes one needs to listen to it from somewhere besides right next to the amp.
The other thing is that each NV series amp is a bit different. There's a significant difference between the 12" Blue Marvel in the NV 112 and the 15" Black Widow in the NV 400 or 1000, and no doubt there are other notable sonic differences. |
